Dru Mac | “My Legacy,” A Title That Speaks For Itself
Dru Mac makes another dynamic Rap Fiesta appearance with his upcoming album “My Legacy.” Almost two years ago, on the dot, Dru Mac dropped “Money Tawks,” a ten-song project that features cold bars, remarkably smooth flows, and songs that are instantly addicting.
The rapper’s future project carries a similar vibe. But Dru Mac somehow elevates the creative energy, making “My Legacy” an album that deserves a multitude of attention.
Dru Mac has been carefully crafting “My Legacy” for about two years. The rapper attests his creative process is something that simply cannot be rushed. And he’d rather tweak a song’s elements ruthlessly until it’s perfect rather than rush to release a project. This precision and close attention to every single aspect of a song is something that separates Dru Mac from a lot of other musicians out there.
As a result of his persistence, songs on the album like “YAMS” and “Fix Yo Face” carry a distinct, soul-stirring sound you’ll quickly find yourself addicted to.
For instance, “YAMS” is Dru Mac’s unique way of introducing his listeners to the album. The soft, gentle rhythm with an R&B feel soothes your ears. And saying Dru Mac’s bars are elite is an understatement. The rapper’s flow, rhyming schemes, and shifts in tone to match the beat are all top-notch.
‘YAMS’ is a very short way to draw my listeners in before the album takes a wild turn, Dru Mac.
What’s even more impressive is that Dru Mac freestyled the compelling bars in “YAMS.” During our interview with the artist, he attests he freestyles almost all the bars featured in his songs on “My Legacy.” The only time there’s a set structure is during the chorus and hook.
Freestyling a majority of his bars is a huge shift from the last encounter we had with Dru Mac. Previously, the rapper would spend considerable time writing and ensuring his message and lyrics were just right. However, for “My Legacy,” the vibe is different.
The rising rapper aimed to simply have fun while doing his thing and creating a project that expresses exactly what its title is: the rapper’s legacy. That said, the album displays the broad creative range Dru Mac has in his arsenal. Therefore, there isn’t one specific kind of style or sound featured throughout the entire project.
All the songs aren’t going to sound the same, [which] keeps listeners engaged throughout the album, Dru Mac.
Throughout “My Legacy,” you can expect to be kept on your toes while listening to the 10-song album. From a soft interlude to a dynamic West Coast-style hip-hop track to a short skit, the album keeps you guessing. Not only does this constant shift in sound speak to the rapper’s immense creative energy, but it also shines a light on the complexity of his style and who he is as a person.
Basically, you can’t put Dru Mac in a box. The artist genuinely has his own unique sound and style, making it nearly impossible to compare him to anyone else out there. The best way to describe his sound is that it carries a distinct West Coast vibe.
[I wanted to] captivate the people’s hearing process and engage people, Dru Mac, regarding the message he wants his listeners to take away from ‘My Legacy.’
Another song we had the opportunity to preview is entitled “Fix Yo Face.” From the jump, the track floods the speakers with a swagger you’ll find yourself instantly drawn to. The West Coast energy is something you feel in the depths of your soul. And Dru Mac’s cadence, flow, and message are way too smooth.
The idea behind “Fix Yo Face” is simple: the rapper talks about the importance of always asking where the money’s at. Essentially, the rapper addresses the significance of valuing yourself and your craft. And that he’s not doing features, or anything else creative, for free (nor should he).
People make a weird face when you charge them for your creativity. This song addresses that moment. ‘Fix your face because I’m not doing anything for free,’ Dru Mac.
Dru Mac will be busy this summer. In addition to working on “My Legacy,” the rapper aims to start a podcast, learn how to mix all his own music, and drop an exclusive clothing brand called OneHunnitWayz. Everything Dru Mac does deserves your attention. The artist has a certain way of expressing himself that is unlike what you’ve seen before.
“My Legacy” is dropping this Winter. As was mentioned earlier, Dru Mac doesn’t like to rush the creative process. But he assured us that we can expect his final album on December 10, 2023.
That said, make sure you follow Dru Mac on Instagram and Spotify so you’re the first to know when his next album drops. And if you want to see the various projects he’s been working on, check out the artist’s official website (link below).
Based on the sneak peek we got of “My Legacy,” we feel confident saying it’s a project you’ll regret missing out on. The distinct sound and wavy bars are just too good to pass up. Tap in with Dru Mac as soon as possible. You won’t regret it.
