Kat Victoria | “Fire and Ice”
Underneath the distorted, uncanny synths, listeners can find a low-hitting base and infectious wind percussion in Kat Victoria’s new hit “Fire and Ice.”
Showcasing Dounia-esqued vocals and a little sass, Kat Victoria draws from the Japanese culture and leaves future lovers with a fair warning. As she goes in-depth about her effortless charm, the singer makes sure to tell them to not fall in love. Granted that she likes her peace and quiet, Victoria basically says that deep feelings will just cause havoc. And so, through symbolism, Victoria goes to say that she’s a “wildfire burning through your memory and a snowstorm in reality.”
To add, Victoria metaphorically hints that coldness (or ice) indicates her emotionally closed off ways whereas fire (or heat) indicates her short temper because she refuses to settle for anything less.
Take for instance, this phrase. Here, the singer says “You tell me that I’m shallow, but you’re trying not to drown/It’s not my fault I’m the best you ever found/But I won’t stick around.”
Towards the 2-minute mark, Victoria’s voice gets altered, but it’s in means of showing others that lust can leave you out of whack.
All-in-all, it’s best to know what you’re up against, rather than being blindsided. Really, Victoria says their relationship comes with two outcomes. In this phrase, she says to them “You’ll either burn alive or freeze.”
