1Dru ft. Ashton Martin | “Memory Lane”
1Dru’s “Memory Lane” anonymously unifies the human race by offering some heavy bars about how ‘we’re allies’ and ‘could be one of the same.’ Mitchell Cole directs the visual for 1Dru’s powerful track.
In a snapshot, viewers will see 1Dru being interrogated by a detective who’s trying to get to the bottom of a crime. From there, the camera pans on 1Dru rapping while the detective flails his arms and a piece of paper around. Then towards the middle, “Memory Lane” transitions to a scene that digs deep into what happened. From the start, 1Dru keeps his mouth shut, opting not to snitch and go through the consequences. As the music video continues, his feature Ashton Martin appears, driving a green sports car around. Eventually, Martin raps as the smoke resurfaces behind him and in front of his car. “Memory Lane” proves through the visual that staying together could fight against evils in the world and form an unsecured bond between all races.
Throughout the song, listeners will hear 1Dru carry a flow that’s reminiscent of Eminem. “Memory Lane” also speaks on our many similarities. In a Southern twang, 1Dru raps: “Same school games, same badass children, nobody saying names. Everybody gets detention,” and “More love/less hate/Realize that this fate gon’ look at my face/Man we ain’t that different.” Realistically speaking, the color of our skin shouldn’t determine what our fate holds.
Ashton Martin, keeps the same energy, using some time to reflect on personal upbringings and discrimination. One notable line of his says, “Got different eyes, different sides. But we cut close.” Ultimately, the duo carries a powerful message over a boom-bap beat to stress the importance of sticking together at all times.
