Wafflejax’s ‘G Herbo!’ Wins Rap Fiesta Radio’s Week 4
With a flow as easy as his name comes off the tongue, Wafflejax bursts onto the scene with his new single “G Herbo!“. Every Thursday Rap Fiesta runs a contest for up-next artists, but with the way the IG live was popping off you may have thought that we were simply running a Wafflejax promo. “G Herbo” is like sitting down with a beer and then realizing one of your boys spiked it with tequila. The beat starts off with a serene, almost tranquil energy. It doesn’t seem to ramp up on it’s own, as much as it feels like Wafflejax himself coaxes the beat out of hibernation. Picture Wafflejax as Ray Lewis and the production as the Baltimore Ravens and you’ll get the picture.
The one word that jumps to the forefront of my mind as I absorb the Wafflejax sound is concentration. I mean, this man is focused. There isn’t an aspect of his art that he neglects. His lyrics aren’t wasted, and his references are far from tired. His flow is live, almost jumpy, like a kid at summer camp who just discovered the glory of Red Bull. Much like Ray Lewis, Wafflejax gets stronger and hungrier as the song progresses, tweaking his delivery and maneuvering around the beat with audacity that can only be amassed with confidence in one’s skill set and intense preparation.
What sets Wafflejax apart to me is the grit just dripping from his voice. It may seem trivial, but that’s the kind of intangible that gets people blowing up chatrooms insisting that we play Wafflejax. Wafflejax is the kind of artist I get excited to tell my friends about so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
This is your first and last courtesy call. Consider yourselves warned. Wafflejax 2020.
