ZahSosaa | ‘Life’, Young Vet
Welcome to North Philly week here on Rap Fiesta. ZahSosaa hails from the battle-tested, hard-nosed section of Philadelphia that is just brimming with talent. An addictive, chest-bumping record, “Life” functions as somewhat of a checkpoint project for Zah. Fresh off of his second studio album, Sosaa handles the bass-heavy, tough to catch beat with the ease you’d expect from an artist who was performing on the same stage as industry icons Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, and Post Malone while his peers were studying for their high school history test. Sosaa shines on “Life,” displaying incredible dexterity as he repeatedly switches up his flow and rhyme scheme. Zah is like the new variety of M&M’s with hazelnut in the middle; a rough exterior concealing trance-inducingly smooth vocals, laced with a vicious undertone. He reflects on his impressive accomplishments thus far in his career while acknowledging that his work has just begun. He’s grateful for what he’s achieved, but hungry for so much more.
Zah has a startlingly impressive body of work for a rapper not even into his 20s. Sosaa Vibes 2.0, his most recent album, was a complete project. Sosaa also teases R&B potential both in the romance focused “Love,” and in the storytelling, inspiring “Thru the Storm.”
“I been through some things, tell myself imma be alright; I still go through a lot of things because bullshit comes with life.”
“Thru the Storm” is an astonishingly mature song. With a soothing, uplifting delivery and beautiful ad lib vocals, Sosaa tells a touching story of the growth he’s been able to achieve, and the strength he’s gained through that growth. “Mission” follows a similarly upbeat and hopeful tone, with Sosaa now explaining that while he loves his hometown, he hates it’s current predicament, and how that negatively affects kids at such a young age. Sosaa speaks to his motivation and the source of his drive: family and loyalty.
“My bro if you need help then you got it no competin’, if I eat then we both ‘cuz I’m sharin’ no I’m treating.”
Sosaa’s commitment to improving the lives of those he cares about through his craft is both admirable and authentic. This is what I truly love about Sosaa: his spirit. He genuinely wants to impact the world in a positive way, and he does that by bringing awareness to the unfortunate circumstances he grew up in, without glorifying villainy and a life of crime. Sosaa is not resigned to his fate; the man sees how the world is and how it should be, and strives to transform the former into the latter.
Zah Sosaa was on-brand with his motto when I contacted him about the article.
“If you work hard, the sky is the limit.”
Sosaa puts that adage to the test every day. Join the good guys and the battle to bring positivity and change into the world and check out the awesome music video put together by Marlissa Monay Visuals below.
