TC Don Dada | ‘100k ft. TE Peezy’, Diesel Fueled
Rap Fiesta fans, here is your new alarm clock. If you’re having trouble getting out of bed, I have your solution. It is physically impossible listen to ‘100k‘ by TC Don Dada without bouncing around the room. I’m serious, halfway through the song I was ready to throw hands with my shadow for looking at me funny. I don’t even know how this beat was created; it’s like someone asked Dada if he wanted a ten toes vibe or a Young M.A. vibe and he said “both.” Dada matched that energy and some, handing out punchlines like they were diversity brochures on a college campus.
“Couple real trap n****s lockin’ in it’s getting spooky, brand new Glock came in the box you new that nookie; new jack city I’m somethin’ like Nino, you a pookie, young fly n***a I’m lookin’ like I’m signed to loochie!”
I don’t know what half of that stuff means and I still feel every word. TC may be West Coast born and raised, but he embodies that hard-nosed, in-your-face, Detroit rap style. Fittingly, the feature on 100k is TE Peezy, a Detroit native. He’s not necessary rapping, so much as spitting words at you like they’ve got a bad taste, a la Payroll Giovanni, another Detroit legend. While this can sometimes come at the expense of lyrical complexity, TC avoids that pitfall, blending raw nastiness with multi-syllabic rhyming effortlessly. His command of the English language would make a college professor blush, and his punchlines make you want to rob your sister.
There’s something intangible that all the great storytelling rappers have. It’s the reason Tupac touched so many people at their core. It’s the reason Tee Grizzley blew up off of a freestyle. It’s that raw, primal energy that you just can’t fake. There’s something about TC and the way he tells his story that makes you just instantly believe him. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is, but it’s real and it’s infectious.
“Snakes I can handle; it’s the rats that got me terrified, no blue check on IG, but in the trenches verified.”
If Tekashi makes songs for 14-year-old girls who just stole a watered down shot of their mom’s vodka, TC makes songs for grown men and women who handle their business and provide for those they love. This kind of talent doesn’t get overlooked, and TC is about to be verified on a lot more than just Instagram.
