Superlative Sain | ‘Basement’, Gritty New York Hip Hop
New York Hip Hop is loud and in full effect this spring. Superlative Sain out of Hollis, Queens provided us with his captivating music video ‘Basement‘ produced by 2300. The song oozes symbolism of independent artistry and embodies creating something out of nothing. The music video encompasses this aura by its very scenery. It was filmed in a basement, the song was created in a basement- and this is all to symbolize what Superlative Sain has come from.
Coming fresh off his R&B EP ‘Growth’ released in March, he decided to showcase his diversity in a different light. ‘Basement’ is a hard-hitting ode to individuality. The Queens rapper totes a comfortable flow while hovering over the message of paying homage to his beginnings. His demeanor is both humble & arrogant. His cadence pedals through different speeds of control, and his mastery in picking his spots is more than apparent.
‘Don’t let it come to that, stay in yo’ lane. Grind for it, thats a fact I want the fame’
Rap Fiesta loves New York Hip Hop in general, but even more so when it’s coming from an artist who embodies the grit. There is nothing glamorous about grinding from the basement, but Superlative Sain embraces this notion with clarity. It’s clear he’s the type of artist to persevere through the trenches, and one who doesn’t want anything handed to him. We’re confident he has the mentality, and the quality to set him apart.
