Emily Edge on The Hip Hop Influence of Fashion, Industry Respected
Rap Fiesta is proud to introduce Emily Berrol. Emily is an active personality in the fashion industry, and the founder of Emily’s Edge, which has been committed to discussing the latest fashion trends since 2015. Her commitment to keep up with an industry that evolves daily, and spot trends as they arise make her a valuable asset to Hip-Hop.
With Hip-Hop being hallmarked by it’s fashion, a few rappers are now more critically acclaimed for their wardrobes than their music in some cases. Playboi Carti & ASAP Rocky are perfect examples. They frequently strut runway shows in Europe while wearing some of the most coveted pieces by your favorite designers. For these reasons, we wanted to know where this love affair between Hip-Hop and fashion arose from, and Emily in all her glory was kind enough to answer.
She explained to Rap Fiesta that a big piece of fashion influence came directly from Hip-Hop. Street Style as it’s deemed, was popularized by Harlem’s very own Dapper Dan, a gigantic Hip-Hop & Fashion icon. Dapper Dan frequently took luxury and designer logos and hand crafted these pieces for notable Hip-Hop artists, which soon became fanatically popular. Emily also told us that some of the biggest trends (like big, oversized logos [such as Gucci & Supreme]) have originated from Hip-Hop.
