Ncognita Is Your Week 7 Rap Fiesta Radio Winner
Ladies and Gentleman, put your hands together for the song that took home the Rap Fiesta Radio Week 7 crown: Ncognita‘s ‘Clap Clap.’ A quick-hitting party starter, ‘Clap Clap’ is a minute and a half of bars, with four minutes of attitude. The beat is a refreshing throwback, reminiscent of a time before producers hit the keyboards with heavy fingers; back when rappers scoured the house for pots and pans or anything that might sound good on a track.
Ncognita displays incredible rhythmic agility, dropping in right on the beat, before sliding behind it. She then jumps right back on the beat, injecting an ounce of flare to keep listeners on their toes. Another thing I really appreciate about Ncognita is her enunciation and inflection. These aesthetics are frequently overlooked among modern rappers, and it’s invigorating to see that they aren’t totally forgotten.
I was honestly disappointed to learn that Ncognita hails from California, because she is exactly the kind of rapper New York needs to breathe life into it’s heavily diluted mumble-trap scene. Without rapping fast, Ncognita comfortably fits more bars into 1:27 than most new age rappers put in an entire four-minute song. Ncognita is the kind of artist that would hear a chorus of honking cars during a New York rush hour and drop some bars on it effortlessly.
Ncognita is precisely the kind of artist we want to feature on Rap Fiesta. She’s fresh and unafraid, full of the light-hearted exuberance one gets when they’re just discovering their lane. With less than a year of music under her belt, Ncognita is an artistic mystery.
“Like my style I got my drip from California, packed my bags then I brought it all to NOLA.”
Ncognita just gave us a small taste of what’s in those bags, and if ‘Clap Clap’ is any indication, they’re filled to the brim with heat. New Orleans, you’re officially on notice.
