Witchitaw Slim | ‘Water The Trees’, Revitalizing Indie Hip Hop
Witchitaw Slim’s single ‘Water The Trees‘ is still making massive waves a year later. The intricate funk bop production combined with his southpaw vocals create for a fluorescent sound. At first listen, his flow is reminiscent of a young Andre 3000 in it’s unique style. The Illuid Haller produced record is littered with beautiful silhouette’s of snappy chord’s that will bounce around your noggin like a pinball machine.
Distance is the devil, and separations a sin
Witchitaw Slim totes a calm demeanor on this record, but his verses have a certain jolt to them. With a flow that is injected with a mouth full of tasty syllables, and a vocabulary that outshines most English major’s, it’s not hard to love his style. Within the track is a bunch of delicately placed harmonies. Rap Fiesta’s absolute favorite is the soulful harmony he rips into the distance at the end of the track. There is intricacy galore on this record. Too many hidden gems to count, but if you’d like to discover the authentic detail incorporated, you need to listen delicately.
His lyrical content is jam packed with the tasteful artistry that moves you and entertains. He addresses his own insecurities and struggles, while maneuvering through his web of thoughts depicted in slick wordplay. It truly feels like Witchitaw is taking you for a ride in his own mind, and his title of ‘Water The Trees’ title serves for this metaphor of stimulating your brain. Trees need water to survive, and Witchitaw simply needs beats. It’s not just his bars that impress though. He is adept at providing diverse switch ups in his tracks, at one point mimicking a very low vocal octave that resembles a devil tone. His music will wonder you, and leave you in awe. Do yourself a favor, and enjoy the type of indie hip-hop artist that will re-establish your faith in Hip-Hop. Witchitaw Slim has arrived.
