Go Van Goes | ‘Unknown’, Hacker Anthem
Go Van Goes has a cruel voice. Cruel and sinister. When you add in the spooky beat and cover art, “Unknown” immediately becomes the anthem of computer hackers everywhere. When the song ended, I almost thought: huh, that ended kind of abruptly, I was hoping for more. “Unknown” is a real conundrum for me because my initial sentiment was that I didn’t really like the song, but I liked the artist, which is interesting being that this is the first song I’ve heard from Go Van.
When I picture Go Van rapping, the image I conjure is eerily similar to a psychopathic fighter going in for kill: wide eyes, bent over stalking his prey, and maybe some saliva dripping from his mouth. Definitely poison saliva though. Oh, and I love it. Go Van seems almost similar to Pusha T in that way, like nobody can feel his verse more than he can.
Go Van’s voice is clear and strong with a definite edge. He’s one of those rappers that becomes the instant enemy of Rap Genius because you would never need to see any lyrics to catch what he’s saying. Go Van has enunciation and vocal strength in spades, two qualities you don’t find in many modern rappers. His vocabulary is excellent and original. His rhyme scheme is complex. Not to mention the dexterity required to also be able to put out a really smooth hook. This man is talented.
They say a company is only as good as its CEO. This applies to the musical industry as well. Go Van the artist is only as good as its CEO: Go Van the person. That is the biggest reason why Go Van will take off. This man just has the right energy. When you hop on his Instagram page, you wander into a maze of good vibes. He’s got that goofy smile, the videos of him rapping in the car, and of course the Motivational Mondays. The fact that he hasn’t made it yet and already wants to give back is truly inspiring. “Me and my wife might steal ya girl.” I mean, come on. You have to love this dude.
