J.P | ‘Love Od’, Taking The Internet By Storm
Recording artist J.P, whose real name is Justin Polera, is taking the internet by storm with his recent single “Love OD.” Garnering over 25k streams on Spotify alone, “Love OD” embodies a compelling mix of Rap and R&B vocals over a lush and creamy instrumental backdrop. Produced by Ramsey Beats, and mixed and mastered by Monkz, this record shows as soon as you hit play that J.P has polished his craft and is in a lane of his own. J.P captivates instantaneously with his high-quality vocal execution, as if he’s spilling his soul out all over the proverbial canvas. This record, among others in his catalog, are a must listen.
From the jump, listeners are lulled into a beautiful dream-like oasis with a sophisticated piano line overdubbed with an eerie high-pitched vocal chop. Put all together with phased “oohs” and “aahs” and a hi-cut rendition of the hook, we at Rap Fiesta were captivated from the jump. The record then goes on to show off J.P’s impeccable recording prowess, as he moves through his verses of elaborate cadences and clever word-play with ease and precision. Throughout the entire record, the listener is never left feeling like he is out of sync with the drum pocket whatsoever, a technique that is difficult to achieve. This is a true sign that J.P has surely been at this for a while, and his hard work and dedication definitely shows.
J.P was born in Scarborough, a region in Toronto, Ontario, and he’s been living there ever since. In our exclusive interview with J.P, we asked him what inspired this particular record. He responded with the following:
“…The thing that inspired my song was just having the curiosity to try and attempt a new flow… also I started working on it after Christmas and I dropped the song for Valentine’s Day which is what I planned to do when first working on it… I guess you could say I had my shorty on my mind at the time too …”
His shorty is definitely a lucky lady. I’m sure she can be happy to know that this catchy and compelling record is going to live in infamy with her as a major catalyst to its creation. As for J.P’s overall inspiration for why he started making music, we at Rap Fiesta were truly inspired by his answer. He went on to say the following:
“…I’ve been making music for just over a year now… I started because I broke my neck which almost killed me or made me a quad, and it’s hard to stay sane going through a dark time like that. Music really helped keep me in a positive mindset. When you have to re teach yourself to walk 10 steps down the hall, or grab a fork to feed yourself, or bathe yourself, it really puts you in a different reality. Makes you extremely grateful for what you have. And considering that I’m fully recovered now, I look back and reflect on the tough times I went through and how music really helped me out. All I wanna do is make music to pour out my feelings and emotions in my songs and let people catch my vibe. After that incident I started seeing music as a hobby which slowly turned into a passion…”
It starts to become clearer and clearer how deep music runs within J.P’s blood when you unveil the curtain to his backstory. When you listen to any random record, it’s hard to understand what that artist might have went through or have been going through to accurately get a sense of their mindset at the time of writing and recording. J.P’s talent is a product of his drive and determination to beat the odds in more ways than a normal human being can even fathom. We are extremely impressed with his commitment and tenacity to rise above his own trials and tribulations to bless us with a beautiful sound that can be enjoyed by the masses. As for his future goals and aspirations within the music world, J.P went on to say the following:
“…I’m dropping a fucking banger album near the end of the summer and I’m gonna continue doing shows around Toronto to get my name out there…”
If you’re in the Toronto area, you have to pop out to this man’s shows. If you have ears and a pulse for good music, you’ve gotta be on the lookout for his new music. Throw him a like. Toss him a follow. Subscribe to his channels. He’s all the hype. We here at Rap Fiesta are on the lookout for that album, and are sure that J.P will continue to show up on our platform in years to come. For now, you can judge for yourself by listening to “Love OD.” We’re sure you won’t regret it.
