John River | “The Pick Up”, Back With Another Hit Single
A few months ago, well-known rapper by the name of John River released his new single “The Pick Up” on Spotify. Matthew John Derrick-Huie aka “John River” was born on September 19, 1994 to Caribbean parents. He originates from Mississaugu, Canada where he would attend Clarkson Secondary School. That is where he began writing songs and started participating in rap battles inside of the school stairwells. John River in-fact did not graduate from high school, because he dropped out to focus on his music career. By the age of seventeen, he released his debut mixtape titled “The Calm”, which was named Best Canadian Project of the Year by CHRW 94.9 FM back in 2012.
Since 2017, River has been suffering with severe health issues, which has made a huge impact on his musical career. He unfolded that he sometimes has difficulty breathing, blindness and being sensitive to light. Since this took a heavy toll on him, River didn’t release any music in 2017 whatsoever. A year later, River is partially healed but still recovering from health injuries. On Instagram, he announced that he will return to making music for his fans. River then put an end to his slump and dropped a single on September 18, 2018 titled “Burn The Boats”. The song explained that he’s back in the game, even after being under several different surgeries and operations.
Recently, John dropped a single on April 17, 2020 titled “The Pick Up”. It deciphers the story of his aim to get out of his city since it had nothing to offer him. The rapper is beyond gifted, and his lyricism in the song makes him stand out amongst today’s average rapper. Also, displaying his versatility by switching flows makes this track an absolute hit. This chill-laced Hip-Hop tune is definitely one you should consider adding to your playlist, because you won’t be disappointed.
