Toast | ‘Jupiter’, Unorthodox Flows & Lovely Execution

Houston rapper Toast provided us a sonically smooth, and candy-like record with the release of “Jupiter”. At first listen, you’ll notice the beats sweet-sounding chords & stuttering hi-hats that set an other-worldly ambiance for you to enter in. As soon as Toast’s vocals hit, you’ve now entered another planet. Hence the clever name “Jupiter, because this song will truly have you feeling out of this world. What’s more intricate behind the song’s creation is that Toast’s brother actually produced the record. That family bond proves powerful on the artist-producer tag team.

Toast painted flows with unorthodox precision & incrementally adjusted flows to keep you on edge.  For most of the record he’s delving comfortably into the sparkly high end of the record with tinges of flows that remind us of Playboi Carti, but then stops on a dime and transforms melodic vibratos into controlled cadences. It’s truly an innovative record as there’s no traditional chorus and in essence, is a mesh of fluid verses & creative punches to make for one glittery track. We had the chance to ask Toast what sparked him to make a record of such nuance & he told Rap Fiesta,

What inspired Jupiter was to show my versatility… Flow change and structure… the song has no hook but still feels like a complete song. – Toast

For having only been making music in the past year, Toast is way ahead of the curve. He understands in the early stage of his career that rules are meant to be broken & a talent like Toast’s can’t be boxed in. He’s experimenting untraditionally & is thus forming a sound completely his own. It’s clearly a versatile record, but that’s not enough these days. What separates “Jupiter” into its own lane is its replayability. At less than 2 minutes long, and jam-packed with catchy melodies- you’ll be caught playing this back at least 4 to 5 times to extract the full value. One listen is simply not enough.

Toast let us know that is only the beginning for him. By year’s end he’s planning on diversifying into the fashion market, dropping his clothing brand “Saint Toast” to further escalate his brand. With his music & branding paving the way for more opportunities, he’s lining up to be a double threat in today’s music climate.
