BRIGGS | ‘Peace Love Unhappiness’
Although we’ve said our farewell to 2020, music listeners can’t help but reminisce about the excellent music that dropped during that very trying year. Sure, the list of “no skip” projects and singles are pretty high, but there’s one musical compilation that’ll make your ears perk up! The album that I’m referring to is BRIGGS’ Peace Love Unhappiness, which premiered on October 31st.
BRIGG’s Peace Love Unhappiness is an emotive piece of musical art that finds the artist opening up to his fans about his trials and tribulations. Regardless, the rapper is charging it to the game. The rapper also drops bars within each track about how he stays ten toes down, finding hip-hop, and his consistent work ethic. Sonically, Peace Love Unhappiness dabbles in trap ballad-type beats and R&B, which takes on many forms. As a whole, the album is full of infectious energy due to its lively tempo.
Standout records include “PrimeTime” and “Letter To Jerwin.”
“PrimeTime” has an instrumental comprised of a timeless R&B sample, sub-bass, kick-snares, and hi-hats.
From a lyrical standpoint, BRIGGS shakes the world with powerful commentary about his overall PSA in hip-hop,
“Don’t promote the violence, I’m an educator, I’ma keep it rockin’,” he delivers. At one point, the emcee even spits, “Motivate the nation, I been patient. It was meant for me.”
He also communicates about staying on his P’s and Q’s, focusing on his craft and touches on racism.
He raps, “No half steppin’, every day I hustle. I want everything.”
Before “PrimeTime” ends, BRIGGS tells all about his musical voyage and rolling with the punches that life tends to throw at times.
The second star record, “Letter To Jerwin,” serves as a homage to his brother, who unfortunately passed away. Over the trap symphony offering, BRIGGS expresses how losing his brother has affected him, saying,
“Wish we could feel your pain/Wish your mind would’ve changed/The devil playing with your brain, then you let him win the game/We didn’t even get to hang.”
As the song continues, he unveils the unfortunate event behind his brother’s death. Additionally, the musician explains how he found out the news and his initial reaction.
Cadence-wise, BRIGGS uses a flow slightly similar to 2 Chainz.
