Dez Luciano | ‘CLS MUSIC’
There’s no cap in Dez Luciano’s rap.
Amidst commanding his deliveries with direct bars about his lifestyle, the New York-based emcee inspires others to focus on what’s truly important. Rather than trying to rock the latest designer, give in to lust, or purchase other expensive assets— Dez Luciano intends on building his fortune. Moreso, so he and his loved ones are always financially secure.
This quality alone informs others, through the words of Immanuel Kant, that we are not rich by what we possess but by what we can do without.
The beats in his latest project CLS MUSIC take on various forms. It’s the perfect blend of soul, lo-fi, jazz, boom-bap, and hip-hop. Yet, these instrumentals have a dash of that old-school flavor. The topics in this 6-track project focus on his money-oriented mindstate, keeping his vision alive, not giving women the time of day, him staying on his P’s and Q’s, and remaining solo dolo. Additionally, he opens up about some dark times in his life.
His flow is attentive, laid-back, and merciless towards those who cross him. Regardless of whatever bad occurrence at hand, Dez Luciano keeps his faith and makes the best of every situation. He couples his top-notch rhymes with clever punchlines.
Two standout tracks include “nochains.” and “whereibeen.”
“nochains.” is a lo-fi jazz offering that finds Dez Luciano expressing how he doesn’t need bling to shine. Despite having no drip, he’ll always be the most fly guy in the room. In his words, “keep it real, no fake on.”
As the song continues, he showcases an optimistic spirit. But then, he holds himself accountable for losing sight of what’s important.
He spits, “Been through the worst, but I feel it always gets better/I should’ve been focused cause dealing with hoes is a set-up.”
Afterward, the rapper embraces his ability to rhyme. He also says he’s gotten attention, not because of what he owns. Instead, he garners traction from having the gift of gab.
“I’m a star, big dipper, bar for bar, painting pictures/Cause on the canvas I’ma killer/Outrun competition/No flash on my flicks/No chain on my neck.”
Following this, he speaks on his brother’s passing and how it affected him. Before the song ends, he concludes that he’s going to “focus up on my chips.”
“whereibeen.” is a call out to those who wonder about his whereabouts but weren’t there to support him from the beginning. The song also addresses those who blindsided him and didn’t have good intentions. Over the piano-driven boom-bap/jazz offering, he details how successful he’s gotten. Likewise, he subtly throws a jab at the one who switched up. Nevertheless, he lets bygones be just that. Bygones.
He spits, “Who was asking for me? they was actin’ funny/N*gga owe me money/But he can keep it, f*ck it.”
After being burned way too many times, he decided to invest those hours into himself and his craft.
He then admits to being hurt but only using it as fuel to push through. Dez Luciano’s primary focus is getting to the bag. But, the star intends on seeing the brighter side of things as well.
“Use my mind, that’s my wealth/Dark times, moving stealth/Won’t lie, pains felt/But pride never let me show it.“
By the song’s closing, he vocalizes how no one is genuinely different, only their area code.
“Same fight, different round/Can’t call it my guy/Uptown, two ways, either fly or you fry.“
He wants to see the world and enjoy what life has to offer.
