On the opening track “Underdog”, Lawrence wastes no time displaying his new sound. Characterized previously by fierce verses & an attack mindset, a more pensive & introspective Lawrence can be seen thought-coloring on the canvas. His flow is controlled, calming but yet concise. He doesn’t waste a bar while infusing light melodies into the symphony.
He follows this thought-provoking record with a powerful sermon over a simple piano melody on “Home Coming Interlude”. The interlude serves to re-instill values that all of us aspire to nurture. Even for a non-religious person, the spiritual words that are heard in the 2 minute audio are powerful and should not be ignored. It also serves as a smooth transition to the next record, “Skinner Drive”, featuring Soufside Slaughter.
On this record, the duo hold nothing back. It’s straight bars from front to back and the hunger is felt beneath the passion. With multiple releases and projects from the last time we interviewed Lawrence Rivers in 2018, he’s been consistent in his project releases and continued climb to the top.
