Transcendents | “Transcendents”, A Psychedelic Experience
Rap Fiesta’s newest featured artist collective, Transcendents, portrays all it means to be unique with their latest album, “Transcendents.” The 12-track audio experience pulls you in and out of consciousness with psychedelic textures, encapsulating beats, and clever wordplay. Although the members are young (only 18 years old), their sound is anything but premature.
The Transcendents are from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and consist of members Jalen (rapper/engineer), Daniel (rapper), MDL (producer), and John Allen (producer). Drawn together by their collective love for music, the Transcendents only started making music as a group about six months ago. Although their time together hasn’t been long, the apparent cohesiveness of the Transcendents is a bond that can’t be ignored.
When it comes to their stage name, the Transcendents wanted to display the group’s intention with their music.
Our stage name comes from the ability to transcend past borders and predetermined limitations placed on us – Transcendents.
Pushing past borders meant being a little more experimental with their sound, which you can hear on every single track on “Transcendents.” Further, the last thing the group is concerned about is being labeled “weird.” To the Transcendents, there shouldn’t be fear of being labeled “weird” while creating their music.
Each track on “Transcendents” features a wavy, almost psychedelic feel in the beat, especially on songs like “Finish Line.” In the previously mentioned song, the beat incorporates space-like audio complemented by a rhythm with a ton of texture. As a result, you can almost feel the sound waves throughout your entire body. On top of that, the lyrical ingenuity and laid-back flow make for a hypnotizing song.
Other songs on the album, like “Inner Thoughts,” highlight more emotional depth in the lyrics. The Transcendents touch on heavier personal thoughts like self-worth, anxiety, and what life could’ve been on the song. On top of that, a somber, slow-moving beat only adds to the emotional toll the track takes. Don’t say we didn’t warn you; the Transcendents emotive reach is nothing to ignore.
From top to bottom, “Transcendents” is an album that incorporates sounds and lyrical flows like you’ve never heard before. The intention of combining each member’s musical influence generates an unconventional sound you simply can’t get enough of. From the album’s intro, a wavy beat void of lyrics, you can get a feel for what you’re about to experience. Then, as the project continues, the Transcendents hit your ears with an audio experience that’s second to none.
