Lux | “Listen To Myself”, Soul-Shattering Texture
Lux is heating up Rap Fiesta‘s platform with his latest single and accompanying music video, “Listen To Myself.” The three-and-a-half-minute R&B-influenced track throws down a wavy vibe, which Lux takes to the next level with his hypnotizing vocals.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based musician, has been creating top-notch music for 12 years. That said, Lux knows how to emphasize all the right parts of a rhythm while adding in his own style. In addition to displaying incredible vocals, Lux also produced “Listen To Myself.”
Regarding the origin of his stage name, Lux decided to keep things simple. “Lux” is actually Latin for “light.” Fortunately, we had an opportunity to sit down with Lux and gain a little more insight behind his stage name.
The reason behind it is it defines who I am as a person. I’m always looking for ways to make harmony. Whether it’s art, music, or relationships – Lux.
In terms of the beat featured in “Listen To Myself,” it’s incredibly laidback. But that doesn’t mean it is simple by any means. Rather, the track incorporates a ton of texture and depth.
A light, steady-moving piano offers an airy texture to “Listen To Myself.” To speed up the tempo, an intoxicating bass pattern gets the speakers jumping, creating a hip-hop twist on an R&B feel. Overall, the track’s rhythm eases you into its vibe and keeps you intrigued from start to finish.
To further bring out how influential the beat is, Lux lays down some truly mesmerizing vocals. At the start, the artist delivers a soul-shocking vocal run that immediately grabs your attention. From there, you never know what to expect from Lux, as his vocal range and varying flows are genuinely incredible.
At different points in “Listen To Myself,” Lux’s vocals sound similar to the likes of T-Pain, Russ, and 6lack. But Lux still stands out as an individual even though certain cadences sound almost identical to the previously mentioned accredited artists.
Lux’s vocal edits are another detail of “Listen To Myself” that adds more texture to the track. At numerous points, the artist utilizes echoey, trippy vocal edits. By doing this, the track carries even more texture and depth.
Lux was inspired to create “Listen To Myself” after struggling with other people’s opinions. The rapper admits to believing other people’s words rather than his own intuition in the past. That said, he harnessed this emotional experience and created “Listen To Myself” as a result.
These situations taught me that I need to listen to my own intuition, and I’m just expressing that through the song – Lux.
Lux is always looking to create, so you can be sure to expect more music from the talented artist soon. In fact, more singles and an EP are currently in the works. That said, you’ll want to follow Lux on Instagram to stay updated with all that he’s working on.
