Arigon | ‘The Switch Up’, Spanish Hip Hop Flavor
Arigon’s third studio project ‘The Switch Up’ might just be the one that propels him in front of Hip Hop fans everywhere. In a genre that is constantly adapting its sound to target multiple audiences, Arigon separates himself with linguistic prowess. ‘The Switch Up’ is not only jam packed with classic Hip Hop smash’s, but it is beautifully intertwined with perfectly placed Spanish lyrics that will tickle your ear drums.
Before diving into the intro of this EP, it’s important to note the creative placement of tracks. This track list was intentional in its order, and each one is smooth in its transition to its successor. The second track is a skit titled, ‘Dayyyuumm!’, and is absolutely hilarious and 100% relevant. Its production value was undoubtedly elevated from that 30 second jargon, and we hope iL. wiLL is someone who will be making regular appearances on future Arigon projects.
In the opening track, Arigon opens up the gates of the ‘The Switch Up’ with paramount force. On ‘No Se’’, Arigon goes straight for the jugular , allocating no time for clever melodies which he’s renowned for. Before diving into a few catchy spanish infused dance tracks, he comes hard and doesn’t allow anyone to forget his ravenous ability to spit. His bars are infectiously moving, and packed in with machine gun flows in select spots. His true ability lies in his power to pick pockets and switch cadences at a milliseconds notice while making it seem effortless.
‘In a world full of Tommy’s, man I’m still trying to be a Ghost’
Another favorite from Rap Fiesta which plays into the whole vibe of this EP is the fourth track, ‘Aqui Vamos’. This smash is 90 percent Spanish melodies with few sprinkles of English phrases that allow for the briefest feeling of familiarity. His will to bring listeners into a space of diversity and mesh them into hispanic culture is revitalizing to a mainly English dominant genre. The chorus on this joint is one for the books. It’s the type to have your girl swinging her hips into a long night of seductive dancing. You better take up some dancing lessons if you’re going to get anywhere near this record.
All in all, Arigon invented a beautiful bilingual Hip-Hop EP that should be played front to back with no interruption. One listen will not be enough for you, and neither will fifty. Listen with caution, but enjoy limitlessly.
