Billboard Benny | “Elliott & B. Dot”, Revitalizing Hip-Hop
Billboard Benny recently dropped his latest eye candy visual with “Elliott & B. Dot” on October 30th, 2020 with a vengeance. Within 1 week’s release, he’s garnered over 20,000 streams on his music video alone. While rapidly in the midst of a viral release, Billboard Benny is tactfully putting the pieces in place with professionalism. As an indie artist, he’s presenting himself as a major with this last drop. Bentleys & private jets fill up the scene, and a confident Benny is seen rattling off bars with the utmost ease. He’s carrying himself as a great, and providing the aura to validate that.
On “Elliott & B. Dot” the Brooklyn rapper showcases his lyrical ability with bars that ooze the hustle New York mentality. We can’t help but mention his canny resemblance to J. Cole. He lets his bars carry the story & doesn’t rely on melodies to fill space, his verses pack punch. It makes sense that his favorite artist growing up was Jay Z, the mogul rap artist that discovered Cole. With these inspirations & skill to match, Billboard is making for a scary come up.
The first feelings we got from this record, had to be from his raw inspiration. Whether it’s the fancy cars & private jets, or Benny’s gritty style of rapping, there are many elements embedded in this record to get you thinking. We were lucky enough to link up with Billboard Benny a week after the single, and we wanted to know where the hunger for “Elliott & B. Dot” came from, to which he responded:
The single Elliott & B. Dot wasn’t originally made to be a single, it became one. I made the record with the intentions of not holding back… just letting the words & cadence carry their own identity. A lot of artists get caught up chasing sounds or hits, I’m big on never doing that. The record was supposed to have that “B Side” of the album feel, I watch & admire the opinions of elite journalists like Elliott Wilson & Brian “B. Dot” Miller so while I was making the record I thought this could be a song where one day by the grace of god I could possibly get to see them surgically pick apart the lines in the song….I wound up saying their names in the record to give them their flowers from me dreaming that in the future they’d appreciate this kind of record due to this kind of rap being “unpopular” you could say. My producer DollaVision heard the record and said “This is a conversation piece” , he as well loves their journalism. One day I was given the opportunity by Brian “B. Dot” Miller to send over the record & he loved it. The very next day Elliott Wilson posted it and followed up by posting the video as well saluting me for delivering this song in their honor… I feel as if this record is a testament to all artists that you can express yourself without limitations. Just leave hip hop in the hands of those who really appreciate cadence, word play, & a overall dope sound. This is a case of when intentions of making a pure rap “B side” record turned into a single stamped by the goats. – Billboard Benny
It’s clear from his response & approach to Hip-Hop that Billboard Benny is a cerebral artist. His branding & planning is well-thought-out & executed to a tee, it’s for these reasons coupled with his skill, that you’ll be hearing a lot more of Billboard Benny. He’s planning on release an album with these concepts in mind on November 13th, 2020, and if “Elliott & B. Dot” is any suggestion to what the soundscape will be, we know it will excite & enthrall.
With big aspirations to collaborate with major artists in the near future, Billboard Benny has plenty of moves to put on the table.
