Bryce Knight | ‘Fade Away ft. Josh Munn’
Rapper and recording artist Bryce Knight is garnering a lot of attention with his new song ‘Fade Away ft. Josh Munn.’ Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in the metro Detroit area, Knight has captured lightning in a bottle with this track. This new age record blends silky hip-hop production with interesting vocal melodies and dynamic yet catchy flows. The track is an ear-popping and attention-grabbing display that really showcases the clear-cut talent and potential that Knight possesses.
This song starts off nicely with intricate pizzicato violin melody lines that sit on top of lush and creamy piano chord atmospheres. These elements set a somber aura to the record that is complemented nicely by the vocals of both Bryce Knight and Josh Munn. Knight starts off the vocals in this one with a captivating hook you’ll surely want to sing along to. With an evident play on some sort of “relationship-gone-wrong” type scenario, Knight successfully displays an impressive ability to write a cohesive track and execute a vocal performance in a memorable manner. With a nonchalant yet emotional tone of voice, Knight oozes confidence with lyrics such as:
Guess it all don’t matter. What’s the point in talkin’ anyways?
Save myself the breath because the truth, it cut like razor blades.
I’ll be touring out of state and all of this was just a phase.
Imma cop a phantom just to disappear without a trace.”
It’s difficult sometimes for an artist to write cohesive lyrics that hold true to the song’s topic throughout the duration of a track. While that’s true in most cases, Knight exhibits this skill with ease and precision. Munn tops off the track with an exhilarating guest verse that puts the icing on top of the cake. He begins with an interpolation of the melody that Knight displays in the hook but varies it with his own lyrical spin. He then dives into a more dynamic verse that leans more on conventional hip-hop bar driven cadences then melodic oriented lines. This was a nice change of pace for the record as a whole and makes for a great final verse to this impressive musical effort.
Rap Fiesta wanted to get to know a little more about Bryce Knight after hearing this record. During our conversation, we got into some of his background, inspirations, and future plans for this budding talent. Knight was trying to catch a vibe while searching for beats and ended up stumbling on this one, produced by Jackpot. Once he caught a flow, he had Lyriq Mathews from the Detroit/Oak Park area record and engineer it. When asked about what inspired this one in particular, Knight remarked:
My song was inspired by break ups that my friends were going thru and also a little something I had going on with a girl I was talking to… I was freestyling to a beat not knowing my mic was still on [and] my friend overheard it and pretty much told me to go record it…”
Some of the catchiest and most impressive songs come out of a place of spontaneity, and it seems like this song is no exception. Knight went on to explain how his stage name is his real name because he “couldn’t think of a gimmick or anything else I could represent myself with.” Like other artists we at Rap Fiesta have interviewed in the past, we have no problem with artists who use their real name in their music. It’s a sign of authenticity and is definitely not frowned upon from our perspective. When asked about how long he’s been making music for, Knight responded:
6 years on and off. I always wanted to do something with music, was always drawn to it. and most other stuff bored me. it wasn’t till I was 16/17 that I started putting the pen to paper, and wasn’t till around 22 that I started considering actually getting on stage and making a career out of it. Josh [Munn] really inspired me to pursue it, he started doing shows when he was 14… we kinda grew up together, so I thought if he could do it I could too…”
We loved getting to know Knight more and we’re excited about what he has in store for the world with his future plans. When asked about his next moves, he mentioned he’s “looking to put out another 3 videos this year and work on a mixtape.” All of us at Rap Fiesta are looking forward to hearing more from Knight, and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. Until then, we recommend giving this track and listen and the music video a watch! Stay up to date with Bryce Knight by following his Instagram, here.
