Campaign Jai | ‘Beam Me Up’, Campaigning Hits
There’s no doubt that Campaign Jai is turning heads and dropping jaws with his recent song “Beam Me Up” off his 2019 project, “Pre-Season.” Born in Brooklyn, New York, and currently residing in New Jersey, Jai was able to impress mightily on this awe-inspiring intro track. Inspired by going out, drinking with his friends, and generally extrapolating upon his life experiences, this record is surely one you’re going to be compelled to spin more than once. Reminiscent of Pro Era legend Capital STEEZ with his vocal inflections and overall sonic aura of independent rap icon Kota the Friend, Jai bodies this catchy sub-two-minute track with agility and coordination.
Off rip, the subtle synth line over airy chord voicing create a mystic sonic-space in the production that sets the tone perfectly for Jai’s bars. Jai speaks clearly and confidently with his lyrics, but his flows and cadences truly steal the show. It’s clear that he was really on his game while recording this record, as standout moments can be found all over this track.
“Back on the beat and I’m back on my bullshit.
All in these tracks I snap. Get on these beats and talk real shit.
I got a plan to expand, me and the gang’ll get real rich.”
Talk your talk Jai! These bars come in around 20 seconds into the record, and appropriately set the pace for the rest of the song. Jai makes sure to keep the flows flavorful which effectively keeps the listeners on their toes at every turn. Nothing about these cadences are stale, and you can tell rapping comes second nature to Jai. Towards the end of the record, his light-hearted spirit and hilarious wordplay are a perfect and fitting end to this easy-listening song.
“My new girl is like art.
Had to tell her from the start.
You can’t have my heart.
Evil n**** like bart
Skrttt off, Mario Kart”
Rap Fiesta had chance to talk to chop it up with Jai and talk with him about his background and goals. We were surprised that he’s only been making music for about 3 years, as his sound is super cohesive and refined. The hours of hard-work definitely shine through. When asked about what the meaning behind his name was, he responded:
“…my name is something like a president…you follow their campaign. But I’m a musician and people can follow my campaign…”
Confidence is key in this business, and Jai is definitely not lacking any. The good thing is that he also has the talent and skill-set to back it up, and we were impressed with him all-around. As for his next moves, Jai is planning on dropping visuals “so his fans can see [his] raps are really real… [it’s] not just songs, it’s [his] life.” We’re excited to keep an eye out for these visuals, and we’ll be watching his next steps closely. Until then, we’ll settle for replaying his songs any chance we get, and encourage our listeners too as well.
