DAMPSTATE | “IDGAFAI (I Don’t Give A F*** About It)”
DAMPSTATE, comprised of Roe Kapara, Dolo Tonight, Ethan Ross, and Neanderthal, is undoubtedly bursting onto the music scene. Given their artistic flavors, the alt-rock band is bound to score a diehard fan base. The group’s musical styling is a blend of various genres. Moreso, their records are destined to get listeners pumped and ready to take on the day.
In their words, a common mission was established to gain as much swag as possible. Thus, DAMPSTATE came about following a jam session in LA between the 5 of them.
Today, the band has officially dropped their song, “IDGAFAI (I Don’t Give A F*** About It).” The instrumental, produced by Sensu, takes slight admiration from bluegrass, rock, and pop. At the same token, the record carries a nostalgic 2000’s aesthetic.
Lyrically, the burgeoning band speaks about putting their focus elsewhere and not on situations they cannot control. As they bid adieu to individuals who no longer hold a weight in their lives, the group embraces all parts of themselves. Life is too short to be anything but happy.
First, Dolo Tonight delivers his verse using a mesmerizing register. During a moment of transparency, the singer unveils that something is weighing heavy on his mind. However, he will not dwell on this occurrence.
He delivers, “Shit, I should break out of my head, my head/I could make wishes in a wishing well/But All the bullshitting gon’ get me killed.”
Neanderthal and Roe Kapura beautifully execute the pre-hook and hook that reflects the message of being nonchalant towards people who pray for their downfall.
In the second verse, Ethan Ross effortlessly glides on the beat and throws a subtle jab at guys who want the smoke. Additionally, he raps about having to pick up the pieces after having his world turned upside down. After, he declares that he’s happy being who he is. The opinions from others are certain to be discarded and forgotten about. Instead, he intends on being a rIy of sunshine, even toward those who try raining on his parade.
He spits, “I done been through hell /I hope you can tell/They wishin’ on me and I just wish em well cuz/This is what I felt.“
The song finishes off with a sweet harmonica solo.
The visual, filmed by Oliver Stewart and Kemar Anthony, takes place in the middle of the desert. It’s themed as a spaghetti western film and finds the alt-rock band with a 60 billion double-dollar bounty on their head.
