DanteWuzHere | “Follow Me”
DanteWuzHere is a singer/songwriter who uses his talents to bring awareness to a series of issues that others are strangely immune to. Because the vocalist once carried the world’s weight on his shoulders, he’s a stronger person. To add, DanteWuzHere throws in some introspection to inform the world that in pain there is great beauty. The themes at hand center in on love, loss, internal struggles, and growth.
DanteWuzHere was born in Florida but raised in Atlanta, Georgia. At seven years old, Dante wrote his first song, but he didn’t sing publicly until he entered high school. Following those years, he joined an unofficial glee club before creating a group called Mizchief. To many, the band was like a male version of TLC. Listeners also labeled DanteWuzHere as ‘Left Eye’ of the group. His pseudonym derives from a graffiti tag that caught his eye in the past.
Earlier on, DanteWuzHere was signed to RCA Records, but he noticed after his departure that everywhere he went to work or record, they referred him as “little Dante from RCA.” Eventually, the singer got tired of hearing this because that version of him was far gone. In that instant, he became a grown man and a more focused artist.
“The double meaning to it also is I vowed that every room I stepped in, every conversation, every interview, and so on, people would remember my presence and know that Dante was indeed here,” he added.
Now, DanteWuzHere is signed to the award-winning firm Big Noise, which Al Gomes runs. So far, it has been a fantastic experience for him.
“Al is such a cool guy and believes in me and my musical contributions. We met because a friend of mine who’s also a musician reached out to me and said, ‘Man you need to reach out to this guy Al.’ He went on to say, ‘I worked with him back in 2011, and he’s the guy to help upgrade everything you are doing. He is going to love you and what you do.’ So I reached out, and we had a great introduction and conversation.” DanteWuzHere says.
DanteWuzHere’s latest single, “Follow Me,” is an empowerment anthem for those who’ve lost hope in tough times. The song carries a jazzy, atmospheric soundscape that’s led by a saxophone arpeggio. Likewise, DanteWuzHere expresses himself with a velvety register and projective range, all while putting his sentiments on full display.
The duration of “Follow Me” sees DanteWuzHere commending individuals for their hard work, saying “joy and happiness is never too hard to find.” Additionally, DanteWuzHere offers to lend a hand to those who’ve lost sight of what’s dear to them. Yet, he reminds them that it still takes hard work, perseverance, and faith.
“I can show you where the road is/Only if you wanna follow/I can take you to the water, but I can’t make you swallow,” he delivers. To him, this line stands out because it’s a play on the saying, “You can lead a horse to the water but you can’t make it drink.”
“Wholeheartedly, you can help people and guide them in the right direction, but if they are not accountable or responsible, then whatever happens from that point forward is out of your hands,” he adds.
“Follow Me” was written by singer-songwriter Ryan Toby and produced by Jamie Helms.
“We [Ryan and I] had a few conversations on some life stuff, and how the industry can spark a certain feeling in you, then he started sending me over some stuff. Immediately when I heard “Follow Me,” it spoke to me. The feeling it gave me was where I was emotionally at that moment,” said DanteWuzHere.
