dp0mmy | “Formal Intro”, A Production Genius
Rap Fiesta’s up-next artist, dp0mmy, and his latest album, “Formal Intro,” serves as an immaculate debut for the producer. After wanting to do a producer album for several years, dp0mmy crafted something special with his newest project.
The St. Louis, Missouri native has been making music for four years after getting his start making beats on his computer. After evolving his production skills, dp0mmy felt more than confident to pursue an album where he solely focused on producing. So naturally, all of the beats on “Formal Intro” were made by dp0mmy himself.
Inspired by artists like J Dilla, Mac Miller, and Earl Sweatshirt, dp0mmy brings a diverse selection of sounds to “Formal Intro.” On some tracks, the beat slides through the speakers ever so gradually, offering a tranquil, laid-back vibe. Then, dp0mmy floods your ears with darker sounds on other songs, throwing down tracks with a more trap-like feel. Still, whatever sounds dp0mmy brings together, he molds them into an aesthetically pleasing audio experience.
Of course, “Formal Intro” would lose a piece of its impression without the featured artists. That said, dp0mmy brought together such an incredible panel of rappers, singers, and artists to make “Formal Intro” the treasure that it is. Also, the array of rappers dp0mmy worked with on the album speaks to his creative genius. Each artist brings a distinct sound and style to the project, so you’re never ready for what’s about to hit you next.
Still, dp0mmy displays that he can generate an emotional connection with his audience with or without vocals over his unique rhythms. For example, tracks like “Evergreen,” “Come On,” and “Natural” all show off dp0mmy’s elite production skills. Each of the three tracks is absent of vocals, but their ability to impact your soul can’t be overstated.
My name is Daniel Pomerantz, so the D stands for Daniel, and the p0mmy is the “pommy” part. People call me pommy a lot – dp0mmy.
At Rap Fiesta, our favorites from the album are “Cleaners” and “Temple Run.” On “Cleaners,” dp0mmy throws down a psychedelic, almost old-school rap beat that just washes you in tranquility. Then, featured artists juxtapose this vibe with hard-hitting, rapid bars that punch through the speakers. Sylvan LaCue and Marco Plus don’t allow you a single moment to relax as they spit savage, naturally-moving bars.
In comparison, “Temple Run,” which features K9shmere, is a two-minute trap-like song that will get you head-bopping. On the song, dp0mmy crafts a sinister, almost aggressive rhythm that demands all your attention. Then, K9shmere throws down a smooth flow that only brings more attention to how hard the beat goes.
In terms of musical production, dp0mmy has been busy, and thankfully, he’s not slowing down anytime soon. The producer’s next moves include reaching out to even more talented artists and making different types of music. Naturally, dp0mmy strives to continue working with the featured artists on “Formal Intro” as well. So, make sure you follow the producer/rapper on Instagram to stay updated with everything he’s working on!
