Excelle Mcflyy | “Fortnight”, A Clash of Chicago And Fortnite
Excelle Mcflyy out of Chicago recently gifted listeners his latest offering, “Fortnight“. The song was actually inspired by the online game Fortnite that swept the nation and sparked a creative fuse in Excelle after playing the game with his son. Although the video game is rated for those 12 and older, Excelle sought to capture the terror from the video game and connect it to the reality that everyday citizens of Chicago face on a regular basis.
He wastes no time getting to the message and supplying us with a beautifully created chorus that forces us to contemplate our own lives,
“Fortnight, see my circle shrink in size. All my n*ggas disappear before my eyes. They ain’t finna respawn from out the skies. You can’t respawn here you really die” – Excelle Mcflyy
The lyricism is super powerful and hits you right in the mental. Unlike the video game, the game of real-life demands permanent consequences. Although the tone is serious on paper, in the song it’s actually extremely catchy & could be bumped at any setting. Excelle Mcflyy possesses the skill to create music about serious topics but weave it into a fashion that anyone can enjoy light-heartedly.
The King Art, aka Arthur Vinas, produced record exudes fast-hitting hats, 808s, and beat slices that create the canvas for Excelle Mcflyy to illustrate vocally. There isn’t a piece of this song you can’t dissect and enjoy. Every lyric is passion-infused and each verse is cohesively written. The producer-rapper combo is one you’d love to see grow, as the two have been working with each other since youth & have been doing so effectively.
In his own words, Excelle Mcflyy told Rap Fiesta how he was able to put us in his headspace for “Fortnight“,
I was writing the song after playing the game Fortnite with my son. The first person shooting and the sky shrinking as well as the map was all inspiring. I thought what if I could show people the horrors of Chicago through this game. It would make everyone understand my point, from age 8-80. The violence has to stop because most of my friends growing up passed away to gang violence, police brutality, or incarceration. This is my story. I give you, “Fortnight”, a clash of Chicago and Fortnite” – Excelle Mcflyy
A clash of Chicago and Fortnite is a perspective not many can imagine but will come to appreciate after listening to Excelle’s record.
The Chicago bred rapper has been creating records since the age of 8, where his mother gifted him a tape recorder on Christmas day. Being the oldest of 5, having been raised as a single mother, and coming out of prison, Excelle Mcflyy arose from the concrete and honed in on his skills. “Fortnight” is a direct depiction and beautiful story of the trials that Excelle has had to overcome, and one we can all enjoy.
With more hit records on the way and stories to tell, Excelle hopes to drop a song a day until he’s flooding the game with quality records. With records like “Fortnight” just hitting the horizon, this may be the one to launch him into newfound territory.
