glu | ‘ULTRAGLU’
glu has officially dropped his album, ULTRAGLU! On the 12-track record, the musician’s experimental vocal deliveries are a welcome sign for the prodigious lyrical talent. Coinciding with this is the beat selection, which takes inspiration from genres like metal, techno, rock, electronic, and alternative hip-hop. Each beat also has an overarching atmospheric context. The themes of ULTRAGLU explore his inner thoughts during the pandemic.
Moreover, he illustrates how life will be once it’s over. At hand, the blunt lyrics find glu basking in every moment, giving the finger to haters, getting loose, and taking pride in his artistry. Wholeheartedly, the project captures the chaos, the emptiness, and angsty that COVID sprung into everyone’s life.
Standout tracks include “The Party” and “Sticky.”
“The Party” is a metal meets hip-hop offering. From the start, the energy grabs one’s attention as he spits about getting super turnt. Amongst the booming bassline, he raps about “strutting through with Gucci pants.” Likewise, he details his foreign whip and not succumbing to society’s demands. He wants to use his 24 hours efficiently by enjoying all that life has to offer. glu paints this out through metaphors and vivid imagery. As the song continues, he calls the world for what it is, “a suppressed reality.” Living is more than working a 9 to 5. It’s daring to be different, to do what you want. Unapologetically. Best believe if you have glu at the function, it’ll be super lit.
“Sticky” expresses a similar message throughout the song. The subject at hand dares others to live in the present and stop thinking of the past. Subsequently, glu describes a carefree moment with good company. Deeper into “Sticky,” he shows a strong suit of confidence as he declares himself as a “Pharoah and this sh*t is his pyramid.” Then, the musician talks about his fortune, ways with women, and being the greatest to ever emerge in and out of the music scene. Afterward, the artist details an out-of-body experience and continues to follow the advice he received from his mother: “live it up.” The beat is a blend of techno and EDM.
“With this album, I was for sure thinking about how it would sound live. That chaotic energy is something I’m always trying to bring,” he adds.
His top three tracks at the moment are
“Monstera Heaven” by Too Birds, “No Type” by Gab3, and “Liveinla 1998” by Moodymann.
He continues,
“I’m really inspired by artists who do something really unique, and I think all these guys are incredible at creating aesthetics that are wholly their own. They don’t sound like anyone else really, and I guess they inspire me to create the same thing with my own sound.”
Stay tuned! glu intends on dropping more singles and performing on various stages.
