Gsambo | “IG Freestyle” Proves He Doesn’t Give a Fxxk
Gsambo turns his local residence of Richmond, Virginia all the way up once again with his early August release, ‘IG Freestyle.’ Boasting a healthy 20,000 plus listens on Spotify and 150,000 views on his YouTube visual release, Gsambo makes sure to assert that if anything’s clear, he really doesn’t give a fuck.
20 year old Highland Park native Gsambo graces the track with an incredibly animated meter, visceral and traditionally gangster, with his own sonic twist on bounce driven East Coast Hip-Hop. His rhymes are thick with the drawl of Central Virginia, a dialect mostly unknown as Richmond itself is virtually nonexistent in terms of Hip-Hop representation. Until now, at least.
The bop components are supplied by Producer 606Gus who uses puncturing 808’s and that famous 808 sound-kit cowbell to give a percussive movement to the record. This groove is found by Gsambo, who maneuvers through pocketed rhythms stylized by slurs and meter with the delivery and punctuation of a seasoned southern Emcee, though Gsambo mainly freestyles his records. Lyrics such as, ‘…I really don’t give a fuck, my young nigga really tweaking, they booted,” paint scenes of Gsambo’s authentic involvement in Richmond’s street culture and drug fanaticism, while lines like
“…He don’t even know me, but he want to be me,”
talks to the noticeable and undeniable acclaim and respect Gsambo commands in his city.
Engineered by the rising audio star Mixedbykada, Gsambo’s main sonic contributor excluding his producers, poignant chops of the audio, pronounced claps, and beat breakdowns are embedded underneath in track giving an organic DJ-esque feel like the track is being created as the lyrics unfold.
The visual itself is a classic and relaxed take on the car wash motif, and Gsambo sports a wide and grilled cheshire smile while he spits from the interior and around his car with his confederates. The infectious and laid back nature of the visual directed by Domico Phillips adds a colorful and simple backdrop for the summer turn up shotgunning its way through the local and state Street spheres. Central Virginia finally gets one.
