Hollo | “Hostile”, A Transcending Musical Experience

Hollo is back on Rap Fiesta’s radar with his latest single, “Hostile“. Once again, the up-and-coming singer/songwriter evokes gut-wrenching emotions with his angelic vocals, ethereal production skills, and jaw-dropping sounds. From start to finish, “Hostile” hypnotizes you and lulls you into a tranquil state you’ll resist leaving.

The LA-based artist has released several remarkable singles in the past, including “19” and “Bold“. The meaning of my actual name, Logan, comes from the Scottish Gaelic meaning “small hollow,” which is a small, secluded area of land. In the town I grew up in, there was a little hollow that I would walk through and write a lot of songs – Hollo, regarding the origin of his stage name.

“Hostile” is a three-and-a-half-minute song that instantly transports you into an ethereal, isolated void. Hollo strategically utilizes his ability to hit high notes and deliver powerful vocal runs in order to catch your attention and ensure you never lose focus.

When I wrote ‘Hostile‘, I was writing a bunch of words down in my notes that I would hear throughout my day that really inspired me, and hostile was one of those words – Hollo, regarding the inspiration behind his latest single.

In addition to utilizing attention-grabbing words to inspire the creation of his newest single, Hollo was also motivated by the weather. At the time of writing “Hostile“, the artist describes the weather in LA as dreary, cold, and lacking that famous warm-weather energy.

As a result, the musician wanted to create something that embodied this weather and matched the energy of artists like Adrianne Lenker and Bon Iver. From the jump, you can hear Bon Iver’s influence as Hollo delivers delicate bars over a guitar-heavy rhythm that, although simple, entrances you.

This is the first song that I’ve ever released that was produced/written only by me. It’s taken me a long time to become comfortable with my production skills – Hollo.

Describing the rhythm featured in “Hostile” to its full extent is an impossible feat. Hollo overlaps numerous delicate pieces of audio that combine to create an out-of-this-world experience.
