JOZ;P | “NB990s”
JOZ;P’s “NB990s” is about leveling up while staying true to your roots. The rapper uses a melodic flow amid dropping witty entendres and punch lines. Sonically, the song takes a laidback approach to lofi and boom-bap elements.
The “NB” symbolizes New Brunswick and the footwear/fitness apparel, New Balance. “90,” on the other hand, signifies that the ’90s inspired the song (along with its visual).
In “NB990s,” JOZ;P raps about the freedom that comes with being self-employed. From there, he briefly expresses a concern toward dismissive parenting.
“When my phone ring/It’s like the liberty bell/Cuz everytime I pick up, I feel free, pockets swell/Hell, on Earth/Babies being birthed being tossed in the dirt,” he raps.
As the beat builds up, JOZ;P details his self-evolution before affirming that he’s “putting the game in a choker.” Elsewhere, the “TRI-ANGLED” lyricist speaks about his and his boys’ hard work paying off. The last line, in particular, highlights how he never switches up.
“Life’s a gamble and the house on my team/My corner boys the dealers and we seeing blue dreams,” he raps. “Got real folk, No yes men/No consignees/Prolly make my first mil in some 990s.”
The second verse finds JOZ;P detailing his effortless grind. Refusing to be overworked and underpaid, the rapper creates his own opportunities.
“Outside like them esé’s with flowers/Door to door giving out plants every hour (plants)/Black sheep in a white mans world,” he spits.
The following lines reinstate his all-or-nothing mentality. The rapper will go through great lengths to pass the finish line.
“I-95 up & down moving laundry loads (wash)/Green like a toad, got a lawn Ima mow it/Got a boat Ima row it, unless it’s a canoe (hell nah),” he raps.
Before the song closes, JOZ;P clarifies why he keeps a small circle.
“Cuz it’s usually my pack & cuz I don’t trust dudes/I’m bird’s eye view/I see right through the game/Watching from Dame Lillard range/& you know I got aim/Mickey ears & the light/Laid back nigga but play me it’s on sight.”
Students are tested on their fashion etiquette in JOZ;P’s music video for “NB990s.”
Guided by Professor JOZ;P, the class learns what meshes well with New Balances. After hearing students guess that “athletic wear, jeans, and bucket hats” go with the trendy sneakers, Professor JOZ;P concludes that they go with any and everything.
“At the end of this class, you will have a master’s degree in the New Balance realm,” he says.
Clips of JOZ;P kicking back and showcasing his top-notch fashion sense also make their way to the screen.
