K Brown | ‘Washington Blvd’
Rap Fiesta lyricists, this one is for you. K Brown‘s new single “Washington Blvd” is both carefully constructed, and skillfully delivered. What I love about this song is that K Brown knew what he wanted to vocalize, then crafted the beat and visuals to that message.
“But that’s the cycle, AK’s and rifles, n****s go to war, send gunshots to rivals, bullet vests and bullet wounds; the hood tunes, poppin’ pills and double cups; we all doomed…..but Imma stop it, straight to the top blast like rockets.”
The essence of “Washington Blvd” is clear. You can’t do the same thing over and over again and expect anything to change. Real change requires willpower and restraint; ditch the bad habits, develop goals and ambitions, and don’t stop until you get everything that’s coming to you.
K Brown sounds like if grill char marks on a beautifully cooked hamburger at a family barbecue had a voice. Brown pairs a voice able to effortlessly invoke nostalgia with clear, enunciated lyrics. The aforementioned visuals are both polished and appropriate. There’s no squad dancing with bills in their hands, and no naked girls shaking their ass. It’s just K Brown on the street he grew up on in front of his grandmothers house, and his track. Let the music speak for itself.
Go check out K Brown, the living embodiment of the world soul, on Spotify. I’m telling you, this man’s voice is a cold glass of water after a day in the sun.
