Kembe X | Voices Video (I Was Depressed Until I Made This)
Kembe X has an upcoming project titled “I Was Depressed Until I Made This” (IWDUIMT) releasing on October 25. This is Kembe’s first album in 3 years and he has been teasing us with a few drops including a video for Voices, and two more singles: Lftff and Scoreboard. Each song showing us an extremely talented artist having an honest conversation with listeners.
Originally from Chicago, the now LA based MC attributes much of his inspiration to life events such as death, the struggle and growth in hard situations, and honesty during difficult situations. The songs on IWDUIMT came before the title of the album came to his mind. Once the album was about 70% done he realized a theme which was a reflection of the state of mind he was in at the time of recording, depressed. The artist makes it clear, that depression does not have one identity, nor does it identify a person. Kembe had some powerful words when discussing his creative process on the upcoming project, “I want people to hear and experience the actual thoughts of depression, depression and overcoming it.”
The first offering Kembe gave us from IWDUIMT is the video Voices. The song is produced by Wolf and has a melodic tune with strong lyrics highlighting the artist’s life and mental health. This track with an extremely catchy chorus has this video racking up views, now reaching 345k in the first month of being released. The video was produced by Jon Primo and is shot in a liquor store. Throughout the video Kembe is rapping to the camera while we see him repeatedly walking into the liquor store, each time the scene looking a little different, both with the impressive editing and creative storyline.
