Lawrence Rivers | ‘Only a Matter of Time’, Consistently Authentic
Rap Fiesta fan favorite Lawrence Rivers has released his long awaited, second studio album ‘Only a Matter of Time‘. The Savannah rapper has leveled immensely since his last project ‘Written In Stone‘, which in its own right solidified his presence as a bonafide hit maker. Not only have his last two projects been phonically pleasing, they provide pure stimulations of inspiration. His fountain of will power stems from Lawrence’s upbringing, a tumultuous one filled with doubters that ultimately molded his character. When Rap Fiesta had the chance to interview him last, he humbly spoke about growing up in poverty, and the toll it took on him and his loved ones. Luckily for Lawrence and his family, it’s only a matter of time.
The 9 track album begins with ‘No Man’s Land Freestyle‘. A flow marked with complete command and assassin like execution. He runs through an array of predicaments that make the artist feel as if he is surrounded in abrasive territory. He calls out everyone who spends their time focusing negative energy, throwing subliminal disses, but doesn’t stoop to that level. Clarity is key for Lawrence, he knows his ability is evident, and his cadence can attest to that.
I do what I gotta do to get it poppin, I pass off like a option’
The Georgia rapper added an intimate interlude in a fashion that most artists would be afraid to expose themselves in. He dove into uncharted territory with ‘Slaughters Interlude‘ which denotes Lawrence singing a personal tune to himself with no beat present. An acapella of this magnitude is powerful. You can feel the rawness and the pain in it. Tracks like these are the preservatives in a great project. This is the piece you can fall back on to attest to a projects authenticity.
I feel so low, I need a lift
The whole project is pieced together wonderfully. He gives you bars on the first track with ‘No Man’s Land Freestyle‘, intimacy on the next with ‘Slaughters Interlude‘, and an emotionally authentic piece, and our personal favorite, ‘Soul Searching‘ being third in line. His lyrical capability is scary. Double entendre’s are filled throughout this track. Just read this line, “Really like the game we playing, reminds me of Chess. Moving pieces round the board til we get to the check.”. That line is absurd, this kid will easily get a song writing job for anyone if he really wanted to. He is that talented.
We highly suggest giving this whole album a thorough listen, front to back. Lawrence Rivers is a fan favorite here at Rap Fiesta for a reason, his potential is off the charts and he is only going to continue getting better. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem. Stream ‘Only a Matter of Time‘ below:
