Lil Yachty | ‘Birthday Mix 4’ Annual Release
After turning 22 last Friday, Atlanta superstar Lil Yachty released his annual Birthday Mix, this one simply being titled, ‘4.’ It’s not often that we get a release from Lil Boat, but we can always look forward to his birthday for new music. He starts the 18 minute project off with loads of energy, inspired by his deceased friend XXXTENTACION. ‘I’m the mufuckin underdog!’ he chants throughout the track, showcasing the lack of respect he gets from many. ‘It’s always help me out, not yo boat, how you feel?!’ he continues.
After a few hot bars, he transforms into the melodic Yachty that we’ve all come to know and love. He displays great vocal range on his song ‘Dip,’ and after teasing the song on instagram months ago, we’re glad we finally got this gem.
Aggressively-toned Yachty starts off the next track with, ‘I’d swap a verse for your brothers kidney,’ reminding us how much he charges for a few bars. Throughout the project the Quality Control-signee seamlessly transitions from Bubblegum Rap to Trap and back on several occasions.
With a surprise feature from Playboi Carti, the rapper is found crooning over Yachty’s adlibs. Previously working on the popular, ‘Get Dripped,’ the chemistry between the duo shows us the power of collaborating, creating a unique vibe we can all enjoy.
Once again, Yachty goes back to his roots and showcases his singing on the song, ‘Smile for me.’ It is on this track that Yachty displays his vulnerability and love he has for his girlfriend with lyrics such as, ‘Smile, smile for me, your eyes, bright as the skies for a million miles. Your face, taking me to outer space, kissing you in every place.’
Lil Boat ends the mini EP on a light note with his song titled, ‘Song for You,’ another ode to his girlfriend. All in all, Yachty reminds both his fans and haters how he made it this deep into the industry: His versatility and unique approach on the mic.
We’re happy to have another Birthday Mix in our library, but we are all especially excited to hear the highly anticipated, ‘Lil Boat 3,’ this upcoming October.
