Mannyjr. | ‘Toxic EP’ Review
Mannyjr.’s newest project, ’Toxic EP,’ covers a wide range of different styles of Hip Hop, showing the up and coming Queens based rapper versatility. While listening to the project front and back, the intro, ‘Toxic (Intro),’ is extremely notable for two reasons. Firstly, the song successfully sets the sonic landscape of the entire project, which a lot of artists have difficult accomplishing. Secondly, Manny kicks off the project with incredible wordplay, flow and delivery.
‘Toxic (Intro),’ is based off of Mannyjr.’s thoughts and and views on deep relationships and his own personal experiences. Throughout the duration of the song we hear Manny deliver his frustrations and aggravations that come with being on the side. He expresses his desires to capture the full attention of the woman he longs to be with in a way to all listeners are able to relate too. ‘Toxic (Intro),’ is an ode to all toxic relationships and is a brilliantly written song about what goes down behind closed doors.
Produced by BNCHY, the song contains an eerie and heart wrenching sample, comparable to that of several XXXTentacion tracks such as Jocelyn Flores. With a slow, but appropriate BPM, Mannyjr navigates his way through the lofty instrumental with a plethora of different flows and cadences, leaving his audience captivated at all times.
Mannyjr. is only five years into his musical career and has already seemed to find a distinct and refreshing sound. With strong Spotify traction for the project as a whole, and a strong sense of direction and ambition, Mannyjr. is an artist we know the rest of the world will be hearing about soon.
