Marisha Ashanti | “Actors”, A Raw & Necessary Truth
“There’s only one top spot so baby just follow my lead”
“Actors” can nearly be defined by the above quote from the first verse. Marisha Ashanti comes out galvanized to let her fellow artists know that she’s the one on top and that she plans on continuing doing the damn thang. A record fueled with R&B-Soul and a voice that captures authenticity & places high value on those who do the same. These days people hide their personalities behind social media and material inclinations, but Marisha Ashanti is calling it all out in delectable fashion. “Actors” is raw, inspiring, pleasantly crafted, and outlines the raw truth about an increasingly rising societal issue.
Born in Jacksonville Florida, Marisha has been on the move, making music since she was a child. Using life as her inspiration for this record, Marisha’s soothing vocals blend together with the record, drawing the listener in while simultaneously sprinkling gem after gem on each line.
“Actors” provides excellent production from Adlente that perfectly encompasses Marisha’s voice, as she lets loose a vocal delivery that showcases her range. This single starts with an upbeat, enriched R&B sound that reminds the listener summer is right around the corner. During her first verse, Marisha questions the legitimacy of her fellow artists, and why they need to put up a façade to keep up. The chorus reiterates this, with the same artists making the same mistakes. To close the single, Marisha gives her unique spin on the “Hurt people, hurt people” quote, stating the truths within the community while giving the listener a chance to self-reflect.
Even after dropping Actors, Marisha Ashanti stays busy. She has a fashion show coming up next where she will perform her latest EP and displaying a clothing line inspired by Jai B; a local bay area clothing designer. Even with that on her plate, she plans on dropping a book this upcoming August. Her work ethic and multi-faceted approach to artistry will undoubtedly assist in her blow. As always, the music comes first- and for now, you’ll have to follow her on Instagram and bump “Actors” on repeat until her next drop.
