MichaelPvck | 2 Am in Houston, Mystifying Hip-Hop
MichaelPvck, rapper and recording artist out of New Orleans, will soon be known all across the globe if he keeps making records like “2 Am in Houston.” This new track is a spellbinding and captivating musical effort in a rap context, off his most recent EP, titled “GrimReaper.” Throughout the song’s duration, MichaelPvck (referred to as MP throughout the rest of the article) combines both soft-toned falsetto melodies with aggressive and harder-bodied rapping to make for a powerful and enthralling track. The versatility within his vocal inflections, accompanied by hypnotic and soothing production, allows for listeners to easily sit back and enjoy the music.
MP shows off his well-rounded and multifaceted recording technique pretty quickly within the first few bars of the record. The hook is executed in a manner that is melodically repetitive, yet flavorful and distinctive. This proved to be incredibly catchy after one listen, and even more-so after multiple spins. Standout lyrics from the hook can be seen below:
“Shawty lookin’ so sexy, I know she waiting for me.
Even though her name Angel, I know she ain’t holy.”
When I find myself randomly singing lyrics and melodies while doing things such as; going on a run, taking a hot shower, or making a fire sandwich… I know the record is lit! This track was glued in my brain from the second I heard it and hasn’t left since. MP went on to change his tonality from his lighter-hearted singing in the hook, to a more rugged and deeper-inflectional verse. He bodies this part of the song with catchy and well-executed cadences, while still maintaining the integrity of the song’s overarching concept throughout. Overall, we found all these contributing factors to make for a stellar effort on MP’s behalf for this record.
After listening to the track a few times, Rap Fiesta had the chance to get to know a little more about MP, his background, inspirations, and future aspirations. He mentioned that he “came across the beat [when he] had YouTube beats on autoplay…” but shouted out his homie LaChase for doing everything to “make the beat fire.” MP caught a vibe after 30 seconds of listening to the beat, and from there he instantly started writing. When asked about what inspired this song in particular, MP replied:
“What inspired the song was them late nights in Houston being out on the southwest side. Around the galleria area… Houston bitches really be bad as a muthafucka so I had to set the vibe for my Houston ladies…”
Personally, I’ve never been to Houston. But from what MP is preaching I’m definitely gonna have to check out the scene! MP also gave us some context to his backstory in the rap game in our conversation with him. He went on to say:
“…I’ve been rapping since I was 16 but I didn’t really take it super serious until I actually found my sound in 2018 being in Houston… Figuring out the right vibe which equaled up to my energy and work ethic in 2020…”
We can tell from not only this record, but his entire “GrimReaper” EP, that MP is definitely coming into his own as both a rapper and recording artist. We have no doubt that he’ll only get better and better as the months and years go on, and we’re exciting to see what he has in store for us in the future. As for his next moves, MP said:
“…Normally I would keep my moves silent because actions speak louder than words,
but one of my next moves is to start my merchandise for my EP “GRIMREAPER”
…musically I’m going to drop another project in October called ‘1 MAN ARMY’…”
All of us over here at Rap Fiesta are hype to see how that merch comes out, and we’ll be steady on the lookout for any new music MP puts out into the world. We’re wishing MP luck with his future endeavors, and for now are enjoying all the music he’s currently blessed us with to date.
