Missy Elliot | ‘ICONOLOGY’ and 2019 MTV VMA Vanguard Award winner.
Missy Elliot is back.
The queen dropped an EP titled, ‘ICONOLOGY,’ just a few days before she was awarded the 2019 MTV VMA Video Vanguard Award. This is Missy’s first project to drop since her previous album, ‘The Cookbook,’ way back in 2005.
Missy brings everything we love about her in the precise five-song drop. With a diverse catalog of beats and flows we hear a few different sides of the artist and her incredible energy in this project.
She kicks off the EP with everything we loved and remember about her reign in the 2000’s, while still remaining relevant to modern hip-hop and pop. The first two songs, ‘Throw It Back,’ and ‘Cool Off,’ are both extremely trap influenced fast-tempo bangers. Missy makes it clear that she hasn’t missed a beat over the past 14 years, and if her multiple collaborations and features didn’t convince you, she has certainly kept up with the rest of the rap game as well. Missy is able to bounce back and forth from a melodic flow to witty rap lyrics on each of the heavy trap beats, leaving listeners up on their feet. The artist changes the pace up a bit with the last three songs on the EP, as they are more R&B influenced. Missy even included an A capella version of ‘Why I Still Love You,’ as the last song on the project, showing a softer side of the icon that is Missy Elliot.
Whether you are looking for a party starter, or a slow song to unwind, Missy has something for you on ‘ICONOLOGY’.
