“Oblongata” | Lumikools, jonnychang, & Sweatyhands
Lumikools‘ soulful record, “Oblongata,” is an allegory of the battle between self and depression.
Featuring his cousins Sweatyhands and jonnychang, the song finds both musicians going through lengths to fill the void left by mishaps. jonnychang delivers well-crafted lyrics through a velvety cadence, while Lumikools drops equally impeccable rhymes in a resounding one. Both artists go the distance to keep sorrow at bay and lean on their loved ones for support. As displayed in the song’s artwork, they’re firm believers of F.O.E.
They also give others tips on how to balance the highs and lows. Should they live out loud, they’re guaranteed to kill the noise.
Commemorative lyrics like these drive the narrative home: “Been through it all one day you gon have to face your karma/Whether it’s good or bad that’s life ain’t it/No it Ain’t all picture perfect still letting the brush move I’m still painting/Jot within these lines but I put no frame on it,” Lumikools spits.
He says about “Oblongata,
“We both touch on mental health, coping with anxiety, and the overall importance of family. And also the want for each other to succeed, which you can hear on the hook of the song. Sweatyhands’ soulful production allowed Jonnychang and I to be vulnerable and share our two cents on the issue. So it came to us naturally and from an honest space.”
“Oblongata” is followed by Lumikools’ latest offering, “The Field.” In a nutshell, the almost two-minute record taps into the listeners’ consciousness. Sonically, it maintains that same soulful vibe.
