PaypaChasaMeez | ‘So What’, Musical Cocaine
We’ve all been there. You’re hosting a pregame on a Saturday night, getting ready to hit the club, but something is just off. It’s 11, maybe 11:30, and the energy just isn’t there. Somebody brought three random chicks and one of them managed to slip a Lizzo song on, and nobody is drinking enough. What do you do? It’s very simple: line up those shots of Casamigos, get the limes ready, and play “So What” by PaypaChasaMeez.
“So What” is an absolute barn burner from get-go. If Round 1 of Marvin Hagler vs. Tommy Hearns (look it up) was a song, this would be it. ‘Meez stunts on a classic yet electric keyboard and heavy bass beat with energy only seen from Jon Jones at 3 AM after a win in Vegas. For those who didn’t catch that; cocaine. ‘Meez has a tangy, pull ‘n’ peel voice with a definite edge. While he spends most of the song rapping in front of the beat, ‘Meez pivots on top of the beat just in time to jump back in front of it to hit those punchlines with menacing savagery. Additionally, while his pen game isn’t by any means refined, it is most certainly clever:
“When she off the perc’ she in a different mood, when I’m off the percy I’m a different dude, gave her perc and you gon’ say she a different fool, I’m a different dude, she fuck me she show me different moves…basssss – PaypaChasaMeez
While it may not look like much on paper, ‘Meez’s delivery and timing elevate his lyrics to a different sphere. Rap Fiesta fam, you guys know I’m a lyric fiend, but wordplay and delivery can more than make up for lyrical substance.
“This your bitch, n***a so what?
When I write up an artist’s song, I am writing up both the artist and the song. I do this because in the modern music industry, the marketability of an artist is almost as important as the work product. The repeated mantra of “So What” above is a perfect reflection of ‘Meez’s unapologetic character. This dude just has sauce. If you need any confirmation, just check out his Instagram profile. ‘Meez has 89 posts and only 12 of them even contain lowercase letters in the caption. Yeah, I checked. We also have to commend the visuals and directing on the music video. This might be the most on-brand music video I’ve seen directed in the last year. ‘Meez literally spends a majority of the video drinking out of what looks like a fine china salt shaker. I have no idea if that even works but I’m definitely going to give it a try.
Rap Fiesta fam, lets be honest, quarantine and summer is not a good combination. We can all use a nice influx of energy. “So What” by PaypaChasaMeez: press play, then two minutes later press replay. Have I ever done you wrong?
