Rag3City Huna | ‘Dreco’, Ice Cold Alaska Hip-Hop
We tend to give songs only a few seconds to really catch our attention. We often miss out on gems unknowingly, simply because we don’t always take the time to give a song a chance. However, when listening to “Dreco” by Rag3City Huna featuring Think2wice, I had no problem being immediately engaged and wanting to dance. The Alaska rapper Rag3City Huna didn’t waste any time coming in with a strong and catchy flow.
The beat behind the track is darker, but energetic and has a strong synth lead and piano riff. Producers ML TYLER and .WAV feature breaks in their beat which keeps the listener’s attention by highlighting lyrical content and allowing for hype to re-build throughout the song. Both rappers were able to not only match the intensity of the track while elevating it through forward lyrics, but also keep a consistent liveliness from start to finish. We wanted to gain some insight about this song and when asked what this track was about, Rag3City responded:
Pain. I went through a lot growing up in FV [Fairview, AK]. Music helps me cope with life. – Rag3City Huna
Touching on how Alaskan artists are often overlooked, he stays true to his story as confidence radiates through the song. Even when there were times of struggle, Rag3city did not let it have a lasting effect on his attitude towards his success. This is clear within the lyrical content as he compares himself, while also paying homage, to some of the greatest athletes in history. Towards the end of the song, he states:
Fuck it I’m back on it
Your fingers feel good with a stack on it
I’m Michael Jordan, show me my opponent
I’m beating it up like I’m Balboa
Again, it is clear that he is confident in his ability to bounce back from any situation stronger than before. It is this type of energy that draws listeners in and inspires them to hold that same attitude, while also being able to have fun with the song.
Moving forward, Rag3city expressed his intent to continue to make music that puts artists from Alaska on the map. We see him representing where he grew up and what inspires him not only through his name, but by showcasing his unique and memorable sound. He told Rap Fiesta,
“Fairview Huna represents my hood. Huna is half of my real name [and] Fairview is my hood. I always show love to my hood.”
The team at Rap Fiesta are all excited to hear what is next for this impressive rapper and where he can take his sound. Make sure to follow Rag3city Huna on Instagram here:
