rgb | “Angels”, Incredibly Textured Audio Experience
Singer, songwriter, and producer rgb brings something different to the table in terms of style and sound with his latest single, “Angels.” The easy-going track pairs a trippy rhythm with equally captivating lyrics to generate a song like you’ve never heard before.
rgb was born in Washington DC but moved to Los Angeles four years ago to pursue music more aggressively. Thank goodness he did because rgb’s sound is one that’s hard to find in the hip-hop community. Before he pursued a music career, rgb was always surrounded by music. That said, the artist grew up studying classical piano and jazz, which he credits for giving him the foundation he has today.
In terms of inspiration for “Angels,” rgb took something familiar and broke it down to reveal the deep emotional connection it can create. With that, part of rgb’s inspiration came from his love for the new city he lives in and the power it can have.
This record was partly inspired [by] the journey that comes with finding a city you can call your home – whether that’s Los Angeles for me, or Portland for rapper 4-Tress, who is featured on this song – rgb.
“Angels,” produced by Shiloh Audio, demanded a team effort to create the song’s vivid impact. For example, the track was mixed by Kid April, mastered by Liquid Mastering, and features artists Money Mowen$ and 4-Tress. Although each artist’s style may be a little different, they came together to produce an eclectic, hypnotizing song.
rgb and his team ease you into everything “Angels” throws at you with a gradual introduction to the track. Right from the start, you can sense you’re in store for something different and spell-binding. A resonating chorus spills into your ears, and from that point, you’re hooked for the remaining three minutes. Aiding in how powerful the hook is, the “Angels” rhythm is something only truly understood if you experience it.
That said, “Angels” features an extraordinary blend of textured musical sounds that resonate with the depth of your soul. As more and more layers gently flow through the speakers, you’re forced to subdue to the almost coma-inducing sound. Trust us, “Angels” contains a beat you can’t get enough of, so you’ll likely find yourself turning up the volume.
To aid in the powerful impact the song has, rgb layers attention-grabbing vocals with the same chilling feel the chorus brings. Like 6lack and Joji, both rgb’s lyrics and delivery allow you to connect emotionally with the artist. Further, rgb’s ability to match the tone of the rhythm in “Angels” is nothing short of a masterpiece.
rgb quite literally stands for red, green & blue, which are the primary colors for color models – which to me, felt like a metaphor for music in the way that we as musicians create so much with so little – rgb.
Of course, “Angels” wouldn’t be the same without featured rapper 4-Tress, who brings his own style to the track. Not only does the subtle shift in musical styles add diversity to the song, but it also gives your ears yet another captivating experience. Essentially, “Angels” is a non-stop hypnotic experience that only leaves you wanting more from rgb.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long for upcoming projects from rgb. For example, the artist is releasing a music video for “Crystal Pools” in early March alongside a new single on March 18. So, make sure you follow rgb on Instagram to be the first to know when his next projects are available.
In the meantime, catch a wavy vibe with “Angels,” available on all your favorite music streaming platforms!
