Stash Cash | ‘Vibe With Me’ Album Review
Harlem, New York native, Stash Cash anonymously extends his heart out to those he crosses paths with. As an artist, he seeks to connect with the people emotionally. This notion is so vital that Cash deems his sound as ”bag music.” Through singsong deliveries and a structured array of bars, he reflects on past experiences, achievements, and mentality since certain occurrences. ”I usually write my music when I’m somewhere by myself then head over to the studio to record it.” he says, ”I never have a plan on what to do with the songs until I’m ready to put a project together.”
Stash Cash received his moniker from a friend, They [a friend] gave me that name when I was younger because I never liked spending my money.” he adds ”It’s also a reminder to myself that no matter how far or successful I become to remember who I am and always to save money.” According to the rapper, picking out the right beats and creating the best hooks are his strengths in music. ”The way music makes me feel when I enjoy it is what inspires me; it’s hard for me to explain.” he adds.
Stash Cash’s 12 track effort, Vibe With Me, is a prime example of the theme at hand. Between lyrics, he unveils what comes with loss, love (and getting to the bag). Given that his cadence is double-sided, Cash alternates with auto-tuning and blunt rhymes. As a whole, Vibe With Me showcases Cash’s attitude toward right and wrong situations in a relationship. In one half of the project, Cash speaks about a woman who he once loved but now hates. Then in the other half, he becomes infatuated with another woman, before shortly getting back to the bag.
It’s hard to pin down one genre for Vibe With Me because the production draws from many, like pop and old R&B classics (e.g.,” Got What You Need” adds a spin to 50 Cent’s soundscape in ”21 Questions”) Notable tracks also include: ”Tried To Play,” ”Wave,” ”F*ck Or Nah,” ”Eyes On Me (featuring Jordan Fiction),” and ”Grind Time.” His personal favorites are “Tried To Play,” “F*ck You,” and “Got What You Need.” Listeners, expect yourself or someone you know to relate to Vibe With Me, “I expect my listeners to get in their bag when they hear my songs.” he says.
”Tried to Play” speaks on Stash Cash moving on from a girl who he says, was ‘acting suss.’ Once the beat drops, Cash is on to the next. He could care less about his former lover’s opinion because they’re the ones accountable for this unfortunate predicament. Sonically, “Tried To Play” uses bouncy synths, thumping 808’s, and electric guitar/piano progressions. His delivery wavers between solid rhymes and a singsong for the chorus. Cash’s favorite punchline off the song goes, ”Got more flow than when the water run bitch/I’m the chosen one. Bitches see me and get wet/I’m like a walking water gun.”
”Wave,” on the other hand, allows Cash to tap back into his subtle auto-tune cadence. ”Wave” sees Cash being wary of trusting others (especially baddies). There have been occasions where a woman would try using him because of his fly attire and jewelry. Given these circumstances, Cash stays ten toes down. He raps, “How far will you go? Yeah, I wanna know /you know I’m a tease, can’t even say no” and “She peeps that I’m iced out/Yeah she on a mission/These bitches be stylin’/Know that I’m piling/I tell them ‘my nig go that way’” Through the soundscape, “Wave” uses oscillating, bubbly synths, and a dark piano progression. Overall, Cash acknowledges that he’s drippin’ from head to toe. With that, haters gon’ hate and girls are going to try quenching their thirst. Cash is ready to dub them all.
”F*ck You” also uses a fair amount of auto-tune. The soundscape draws from boom-bap and is led by a piano number and twinkle recording. The title itself is self-explanatory. Cash is fed up with giving his all to someone who doesn’t truly appreciate it. Now, he wants to get as far away as possible. Lyrics like this take the song’s meaning home: “I’m just going to leave/It could’ve been you and me/Now it’s a memory/The good sh*t you couldn’t see/I’ve held you down through it all/Now we here/Love is lost/Heartbroken is what it cost to be in love.” It seems as if his former lover lost the love Cash once had for her.
These excerpts alone give one the gist of Vibe With Me’s concept. As the title suggests, find an ambient setting and just vibe.
