Steve Murf | ‘The Harlot’ Society Needs to Wake Up
For those of you who say, “Lyrics don’t matter,” or, “Lyricism is dead,” please think again. Coming straight out of the Hip Hop mecca Atlanta, GA, rapper Steve Murf viciously, yet gracefully reminds the game that wordplay and lyricism are both very much alive. His latest single titled, ‘The Harlot,’ proves that point from the very first second it starts.
‘The Harlot,’ is inspired by current societal issues such as the negative effects of wanting to have a similar lifestyle to the top 1% of Americans, and the effect that has on the rest of the country. The song makes the observation that Americans are infatuated with money and materialism due to the positive portrayal of those who are rich, and have obtained such materialistic possessions. Thus, lowering society’s morals and standards to some of the lowest we have ever seen.
Other than his impressive flow, dynamic mic performance, and ability to convey important messages, Steve also produces his own music, something he has been doing since he was just 14 years old. Inspired by Q-Tip, ‘The Harlot,’ was produced with a 3-bar loop with infectious jazz chords, giving the song an authentic, old-school Hip Hop sound our ears soak in with ease.
Throughout, ‘The Harlot,’ The emcee has several cadences comparable to that of a young Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and other early 2000’s rappers that are considered to be some of the best of all time. Making music from the young age of 9, it is no surprise Steve Murf has the sound, demeanor and confidence of a seasoned veteran.
With a few television placements on, ‘Ball in the Family,’ and Fox’s, ‘Deputy,’ Steve Murf has some big plans for the rest of the year. Don’t keep your eyes or ears off of this emcee. We certainly won’t be any time soon.
