Tico Icon | ’Our Side ft. Skilla Baby’, High-Intensity Hip-Hop

Emerging recording artist Tico Icon, out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is looking to blow out your speakers with his new single ‘Our Side ft. Skilla Baby.’ This hard-hitting, high energy record will surely make you want to get out of your seat and turn up. Produced by Mystxry and engineered by Wisdombeatz, this track hits hard right out of the gate and doesn’t let up for one minute.

The trap-oriented horn chords at the beginning of the track effectively builds-up intensity and draw in listeners from the jump. The beat absolutely slaps when the drums drop, and the hats, kick, and snare are mixed so smooth. Skilla Baby sets the tone with the first verse, and his highly enthusiastic and aggressive execution in his vocal perfectly fits the context of the beat. Tico Icon tags in thereafter with dynamic flows and sophisticated rhyme schemes throughout the rest of the record. His use of low octave vocal dubs adds a nice texture to his vocal performance, and his cadences keep the song interesting the whole way through. All in all, we thought this one slaps and was worthy of multiple listens.

Rap Fiesta had a chance to speak with Tico Icon after we heard the record to get to know a little more about the artist. Tico made this song with the intention of “giving the people something HARD to listen to.” Originally born in Costa Rica, Tico now resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began making his music at the age of 18, but only started self-recording around 4 months ago. When asked what inspired his stage name, Tico responded:

…The meaning behind my stage name is that in my country, Costa Rica, we are known for being Ticos and Ticas… so I took the honor of calling myself “Tico Icon.” Icon comes from having the pursuit of wanting to spread good vibes and just be someone to look up to!” –Tico Icon”

Personally, I’m always amazed at how many different walks of life artists come from. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with various artists throughout my time with Rap Fiesta, but before Tico I hadn’t personally known any artists born in Costa Rica. It was enlightening to hear some of the cultural context that played into some of the inspiration behind his stage name, and we think Tico really hit the nail on the head with his alias. Tico went on to mention his passion for music began when he first heard rap music as a child, and ever since has developed a taste for Trap, Dark Trap, Rock Rap and more. When asked about his next moves, Tico answered,

I have released a few features with great artists and have bigger moves on the way… Expect music videos and albums [are] in the works!”

All of us at Rap Fiesta are excited to see what’s next to come for this impressive artist, and he’ll definitely be on our radar in the near future. Until then, we’ll have this new single on repeat.
