The Vancouver, Washington native has only been taking music seriously for six months. However, despite the short time he’s been working on his craft, his music’s quality certainly doesn’t reflect it.
The up-and-coming rapper’s stage name is derived from a nickname in high school. While Unkle Runk was in school, people called him “Runk.” The artist determined it was an uncommon name that would catch attention as his stage name.
‘Shaking’ instantly gives off an energy similar to the late influential rappers Juice WRLD and Lil Peep. The beat, produced by Malloy and Jkei, features a constant, heavy bass.
The persistent bass delicately balances as the central element without taking over the rhythm completely. Adding to the heavy bass, the rhythm also features a solemn guitar and other common elements in trap beats.
Unkle Runk’s message behind ‘Shaking’ addresses an ever-prevalent issue that everyone has dealt with at one point; struggles with their mental health. The rapper draws attention to the complex, dark emotions of anxiety and depression throughout the song.

The artist does an exceptional job at making you feel his emotions as he raps in a manner similar to Lil Peep. Unkle Runk’s somber tone pairs with the beat’s mood, bringing you straight into the feels. Throughout ‘Shaking,’ Unkle Runk shifts from using his natural voice to a more auto-tuned version.
The transitions between both styles are smooth and consistent. Unkle Runk seamlessly adds vocal overlaps and echoes at the end of runs to complement the depressing mood.
Unkle Runk has established he’s an artist to keep on your radar. The musician’s hit single, ‘MY DREAMS,’ currently holds around 33,000 streams on Spotify. With Unkle Runk’s latest release, ‘Shaking’ being a whole vibe, we don’t doubt the single is going to bring him some well-deserved attention.
