Wafflejax | Jazz With A Rap Trap Twist
Part of the future of music is blending different genres together like we haven’t seen before. We see artists blending Rock and Hip-Hop, Folk and RnB, and many other genres. Music is constantly evolving as artists look to create original and fresh new music. Recently, the team at Rap Fiesta came across Spring Hill, Florida rapper Wafflejax, who immediately caught our attention with his single “G Herbo!” Putting a trap twist on a jazz-influenced beat, Wafflejax has created a song that is unique, catchy and something new to our ears.
Writing since he was in 8th grade, Wafflejax told us he was inspired by the energy the beat gave him. He described the beat as having a tone that allowed him to be himself and speak his mind. He saw the potential of this song becoming one of his favorites, but also one that would create a lively performance upon writing it. Wafflejax noted he is someone who strives to portray,
A genuine down to earth kid that loves to rage.
-Wafflejax
Furthermore, he wants to create music that speaks for itself, allowing him to be an authentic artist and go against the norms of the music industry. This also allows him to form a genuine connection with his audience.
G Herbo! Was produced by T2– an artist Wafflejax discovered on Youtube. This song is heavily influenced by Jazz music, with a strong saxophone lead and soft harp pad. It then takes a turn and incorporates trap drums into the mix, creating a memorable and original sound. “G Herbo!” immediately caught my attention as Wafflejax begins the song with playful adlibs, then jumps into a steady, strong flow as soon as the beat drops. He begins rapping with hype in his voice and keeps consistent energy throughout the song, making transitions seamless as the beat switches up halfway through the track. Additionally, Wafflejax’s lyrics are filled with allusions, metaphors, and plays on words to cast another captivating element to this song. We can see this towards the end of the track when he says:
Me and the beat
Batman and Robin
Im stacking my feta
Not talking Wisconsin.
-Wafflejax
Overall, T2 and Wafflejax collaborated to create an energetic and engaging track. According to Wafflejax we can expect future collaborations from the two. We can also expect this up and coming artist to continue to drop singles and work with outlets like Rap Fiesta to build his fanbase. He hopes to mold a name for himself with the right work ethic, mindset, and people around him. We are happy to be building a relationship with Wafflejax and cannot wait to hear what is next for this 18-year-old rapper.
