Zay Harper | ‘Tell Me’, A Future R&B Sensation
Antioch, CA R&B artist Zay Harper recently dropped a melodically infused wave of harmonies with the release of ‘Tell Me’. It’s clear from one listen that the man has pure raw talent, but he also knows how to control it. After all, music is in his bloodline. His father was the late, great Nick Harper, a Bay Area legend who was the announcer of the Legends of Motown as well as a famed radio personality for nearly 40 years. It’s without a doubt this talent for music is genetic, as Zay Harper is one of the smoothest vocalists that’s past through Rap Fiesta thus far.
‘Make you say my name, say my name- but this ain’t Destiny Child’ – Zay Harper
That Destiny Child bar alone should be enough to tell you that Zay has the seductive R&B energy that separates the goods from the greats. For having only released 3 songs, it’s insanity to realize he’s just getting started. His songs already sound like mainstream hits and dance along with the worlds of Chris Brown & Ella Mai in memorable choruses. His vocal range is jubilant, and we’re willing to bet money he’ll go note for note with a few greats. His cadences are rollercoaster-like in his ability to change velocity in his flows. One moment he’s pulling you in slowly with careful vocals, and then he goes for the dagger and breaks out in soul ripping harmony.
Our favorite parts of this record are undoubtedly the sky-scraping falsettos Zay hits in confidence. The message of ‘Tell Me’ seems to depict Zay showing his girl that he can be trusted, and is one to get entangled with. His lyrical content paint the picture of a heated love story. We highly advise not playing this in front of your girl because Zay’s vocals might steal her, so you’ve been warned.
With an insanely bright future in store, and records like ‘F*ck It Up’ and ‘More Love’ as further proof of immense talent- ‘Tell Me’ is coming across as a record that will propel him into new territory. We seriously believe it won’t be long before labels come calling, and Zay Harper is a household name. For that reason alone we advise following him on Instagram and getting in tune with the next R&B sensation before all your friends do.
